Listen to the story of Ma Jun, inheriting the seeds of faith sown by the pioneers of the revolution

There is a story in the hit drama "The Age of Awakening": After the outbreak of the May Fourth Movement, Zhou Enlai, Ma Jun, Liu Qingyang and other progressive students jointly established the Tianjin Awakening Society, promoting the patriotic movement of Tianjin academic circles and actively disseminating new ideas of democratic science.

Ma Jun, this is a name worthy of being remembered by the Chinese people. He was one of the early activists and leaders of the Chinese Communist Party, one of the first Hui members to join the Chinese Communist Party, and one of the founders of the Northeast Party organization. On April 16, Ma Jun's descendant Ma Weigong came to the People's China Magazine to tell the story of Ma Jun, a communist who sacrificed his life for the revolutionary faith.

Martyr Ma Jun

In 1895, Ma Jun was born into a wealthy merchant family on the Mudanjiang River. In the dark and humiliating era of China, when he was still young, he had a hazy reflection on the situation of the country and the suffering of the people. "When my grandfather was a child, he was called a 'precocious weird kid.'" Ma Weigong said, "He often asks questions such as 'Why are Chinese always bullied by foreigners?'" The question made the teacher dumbfounded. ”

In 1915, Ma Jun, who longed for a new trend of thought, was admitted to the Nankai School in Tianjin, became an alumnus with Zhou Enlai and other progressive youths, and formed a deep revolutionary friendship.

In 1919, the wave of the May Fourth Movement reached Tianjin, and the local patriotic students established the Tianjin Students' Federation, and Ma Jun was elected as the vice president.

At that time, Ma Jun often led student lecture teams and moved in the streets and alleys. They expose and criticize the imperialist ambitions to destroy our country and call on everyone to fight to the end to protect the national territory, save the country's power, and get rid of the national thieves. With his outstanding speech talent and organizational skills, Ma Jun has left a deep impression of "generosity and ease of eloquence". Deng Yingchao once recalled that Ma Jun was a remarkable person among Nankai students, very appealing, and worthy of a hundred responses.

In August of the same year, Ma Liang, the town guard of Jinan, brutally suppressed and killed the masses involved in the patriotic movement, causing outrage among the masses. Ma Jun led thousands of delegates to Tiananmen Square and launched a massive petition demonstration. Reactionary military police suppressed the students and arrested Ma Jun, but the protests sparked by the struggle flew to Beijing like snowflakes from all over the country. Under pressure from the people of the whole country, the reactionary government was forced to release the petitioners. "The name 'Ma Tian'an' was thus called." Ma Weigong said.

During Ma Jun's life, he went in and out of the enemy's prison several times. "After returning to Tianjin after being released from prison, my grandfather said to his comrades-in-arms: 'The horse horse before going to prison was the horse horse of the family; after the release from prison, the horse horse was already the horse of the Chinese people!'" Since then, his personal fate has been more closely linked to the fate of the country. Ma Weigong sighed.

"The gentle drizzle, the cool breeze. A small spider on a dead branch, operating its web... The hateful and merciless wind and rain are woven! Scratched! Knitted! Broken! Scratched! Woven! Broken! Knitted! It works hard and hard forever! ”

This is a work published by Ma Jun, one of the founders of the Enlightenment Society, in the magazine "Enlightenment" after the establishment of the Enlightenment Society in September 1919. At the lecture, Ma Weigong emotionally recited this small poem that he had memorized since he was a child, and some listeners at the lecture site also read it quietly, feeling the excitement and power brought by this poem to the soul.

At that time, Ma Jun and other revolutionaries who struggled unremittingly, like this web-knotted spider, had indomitable tenacity and tenacity.

"Grandfather was baptized by fire in time and again in prison, fighting more tenaciously than ever. In the process, he gradually embraced communist ideas. Ma Weigong said. In 1920, Ma Jun joined the Chinese Socialist Youth League, and in the same year joined the Communist Party of China, becoming a party member during the founding of the party.

In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched the "April 12" counter-revolutionary massacre, which seriously damaged the Party organization and worsened the revolutionary situation. Ma Jun, who was studying at Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow, was ordered to return to China as secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Cpc Committee and director of the organization department, and devoted himself to the work of rebuilding the party organizations at all levels in Beijing. In a sinister environment, Ma Jun was arrested in December of the same year due to the betrayal of traitors.

"In prison, in order to preserve the revolutionary forces, Grandfather described the other comrades who had been arrested together as his own students, unrelated masses. These comrades were soon released, but he was subjected to various kinds of torture. Ma Weigong recalled, "In the face of severe torture, my grandfather was always unyielding and unyielding, keeping his mouth tight, and after being tortured, he still preached the Marxist principle of saving China to his prisoners." ”

After the news of Ma Jun's arrest spread back to her hometown in the northeast, her wife Yang Xiurong came to Beijing with her young daughter who had not met Ma Jun since she was born. "When I visited the prison, my grandfather was very happy to see my aunt. He held his aunt tightly in his arms and affectionately pierced her face with his beard. Ma Weigong recalled, "Grandfather told my grandmother not to spend money to redeem me, nor to find someone to protect me." He looked at his daughter and said, It is for them and children like them that I am going to continue to fight in prison. This became Ma Jun's last words to Yang Xiurong.

The torture did not bring Ma Jun to his knees, and the warlord Zhang Zuolin personally intervened to lure the high-ranking official Houlu as long as he was willing to publish a newspaper announcing his separation from the Communist Party. Ma Jun did not say much, but wrote down the "Letter to Compatriots in Northeast China" and his own inscription - "The Tomb of Ma Jun, a former Communist Party member." Zhang Zuolin became angry and ordered Ma Jun's execution.

On February 15, 1928, ma Jun, who was only 33 years old, bravely rebelled.

In the book "Sixty Years of Sorrow and Joy", Bai Baochun, an old worker, recalled the scene when he saw Ma Jun's righteousness: in the snow, Ma Jun's shirtless body was tied to the prison cart by five flowers, the long beard on his chest fluttered between the cold wind and snowflakes, and he shouted slogans along the way...

"My grandfather's life was chosen on his own initiative." Ma Weigong said, "In his early years, he broke away from a comfortable life and embarked on a hard road to find the truth. In the last moments of his life, between giving up his faith to enjoy the high-ranking official Houlu and insisting that he would face death, he once again firmly chose to stick to his revolutionary faith. ”

Ma Weigong was the deputy editor-in-chief of China Radio International, the editor-in-chief and chairman of the board of directors of The International Online Network, and the vice president of the China-Africa Friendship Association of the Chinese Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. In his long years of research on international issues and international communication, his grandfather's loyalty and adherence to revolutionary beliefs have always influenced him. At the end of the lecture, Ma Weigong warned everyone: "The reason why the Chinese people can stand up, get rich, and become stronger is because thousands of revolutionary ancestors have fallen down and can no longer stand up." Without them, there would be no China today. ”

In the warm applause of the scene, Ma Weigong ended his memories of his grandfather. Many listeners pondered the short and glorious life of martyr Ma Jun. Everyone said that the seeds of faith sown by Ma Jun and other revolutionary pioneers have now become a burning trend, and we must inherit their spirit and legacy, so that this fire will burn longer and more vigorously.
