The current Zhengding Ancient City is not the earliest birthplace of Zhengding, the earliest place, in the Ruins of Dongyuan Ancient City in Zhengding County DongguCheng Village and Xigucheng Village. This site, however, is the real Zhengding old city that existed during the Warring States period, and now, the "Dongyuan Ancient City Ruins" is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The current "South High Camp" and "North High Camp" are the barracks at that time, but unfortunately, the mounds left over from the past (possibly the ruins of the ancient city wall) that can still be seen in previous years have disappeared.
Nangaoying Village
At that time, "positive determination" or "true determination"! Therefore, it is more appropriate to call the "Dongyuan Ancient City Ruins" as "Dongyuan Zhending Ancient City Ruins".
Locals call the ruins of Dongyuan Ancient City "knots", which were very large in area at that time, including DongguCheng Village and Xigucheng Village, and now only leave a very small piece of about 3 square kilometers, where the ruins of the Zhending Wang's office and the ruins of the money minting workshop have been excavated.
The ancient city of Dongyuan Zhending was built in 414 BC.
Zhao Tuo, the king of Nanyue at that time, and Zhao Yun, a famous general of the Three Kingdoms, were all true people of the prosperous era of the ruins.
When did the current Zhengding City begin to be built?
During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the construction of the current Zhengding Castle began. The local people have handed down that "the ancient city has a lost, and the Zhengding has a repair", that is, the ancient city of Dongyuan has declined, and the new Zhengding City has begun to be built.
The ruins of Dongyuan Zhending Ancient City were found in the first cultural relics census in 1956, and after preliminary exploration in 2005, the ancient city site was irregularly rectangular, 2000 meters long from east to west, 1500 meters wide from north to south, and an area of about 3 square kilometers.
The base of the wall of the ancient city wall of Dongyuan is about 20 meters wide, and there are remnants of the surrounding walls. The surface of the earth is exposed with a large number of pottery pieces and brick fragments. A large number of Yanzhao sword coins and Western Han Dynasty half two pottery fans have been unearthed. The cultural layer exposed on the cliffs of the city site contains a wealth of ceramic daily necessities and fragments of building components.
According to the "History of the Zhao Family", "History of Justice", "Book of Han and Geography" and other documents, the ancient city of Dongyuan was once an important city in the Zhongshan Kingdom during the Warring States period, and later belonged to Zhao and Qin, and the two Han Dynasties were Zhending County, and the Zhending State Rule City belonged to Changshan County. At the beginning of the Jin Dynasty (265 AD), the seat of changshan county was moved from the Yuan clan to Dongyuan. In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, Zhending County and the administrative offices of Changshan County were moved north of the Tuotuo River. At this point, the ancient city of Dongyuan lost its status as a political and economic metropolis and was gradually abandoned.
As an important city of the Warring States Zhongshan Kingdom, especially as the capital of the Han Dynasty Zhending State, the ruins of Dongyuan Ancient City are an important city site in Shijiazhuang city second only to Zhongshan Lingshou Ancient City, and are of great value for studying the origin and development of Shijiazhuang.
Now the ruins of the Old City urgently need to be protected. I hope that the "Dongyuan Zhending Ancient City Ruins Museum" will be built earlier, so that more people can understand the cultural context of Zhengding.
Now if you go to the ruins of Dongyuan Ancient City, it is still relatively chaotic. However, this is a place worth knowing about the people of Shijiazhuang, especially Zhengding.
