On July 2, 2021, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference, some of which were as follows.

Q: Zepp LaRouche, chairman of the SCHILLER Institute, a US think tank, recently said that the malicious slander of the so-called "China-made new coronavirus" is a consistent method of the West to suppress China, and the traceability of the virus should be carried out simultaneously on a global scale, not just China. What is China's comment on this?

A: China has stressed many times that the traceability of the virus is a scientific issue and should not be politicized. Many scientists in the international community who uphold scientific, rational and objective positions have expressed support for this. In addition to the Ms. LaRouche you mentioned, many other experts have made clear statements on this.

Dwyer, an Australian immunologist and infectious disease scientist who is a member of the WHO joint expert group, said that the claim that the virus was leaked by the laboratory lacked evidence, and that the "laboratory leak theory" catered to the political discourse of some countries, and even supported by individual governments, and its circulation has deliberate factors. The traceability process is very complicated, there is no evidence that China is hiding key information, and countries should abandon fighting, cooperate with each other, and carry out traceability research in other parts of the world.

The Swedish Research Council recently held a seminar on how to identify misinformation and conspiracy theories related to the new crown virus, and Professor Jonefoss of Uppsala University said at the meeting that the so-called "Chinese virus" and "new crown virus from the laboratory" and other claims are conspiracy theories. Some have established narrative logic that holds China accountable for the source and spread of the virus by spreading this conspiracy theory. Practices distort scientific knowledge, promote racist discrimination, exacerbate the polarization of the world and pose a threat to democracy at multiple levels.

Anderson, an Australian virologist who has worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, said the Wuhan Institute of Virology laboratory is an ordinary laboratory that works the same way as any other high-protection laboratory and has strict regulations and requirements for the control of pathogens. The coronavirus is most likely to originate in nature, rather than being artificially created or deliberately leaked. Tracing the origins of the coronavirus is necessary, but the media outside China have discredited the Wuhan Institute of Virology laboratories and attacks on scientists.

Massimo Galli, director of the Infectious Diseases Department at the Sacco Hospital in Milan, Italy, recently told the Social Affairs Committee of the Italian House of Representatives that the new coronavirus "is an unknown virus with no signs of internal genetic engineering". From a scientific point of view, the "laboratory leak theory" has no basis. Ghali and three other Italian experts agree that "99 percent certainty that the spread of the virus is a natural phenomenon."

We hope that all parties will respect facts and science, and jointly oppose political manipulation by using the traceability issue to smear and attack other countries and seek the self-interest of one person, one party and one country, so as to create a good environment for global cooperation to trace the origins and unite against the epidemic.
