At 2:00 p.m. on March 19, 2021, at the discussion area of the 9.2 B20 Intelligent Sleep Exhibition of Guangzhou Home Expo, the Modern Revelation 丨 Intelligent Era Design Thinking and Debate Forum held by Furniture and China National Expo today was successfully concluded.
The Forum invited:
Xiamen D.House Design Life Experience Hall, zhang wei, brand founder of one horizontal and one vertical design engineering co., LTD
Ru yi home, Yuan Yuan, founder of Yuan Yuan Design Firm
Doctor of Service Design, Founder of MPPsleep Sleep Technology, former Vice President of Tencent Carbon Cloud Intelligence VP Liu Yitong
Founder of Fengmao Design Femo Design Studio and curator of D2M design samples Wang Shumao
Co-founder of moidesign, INNERFACE sub-brand manager Li Le
Exploring the design challenges and opportunities of the smart era from the perspective of designers shows us how they will take to meet this rapidly changing era.
At the beginning of the forum, Mr. Yan Dong, the publisher of today's furniture and secretary general of the Fujian Furniture Association, said: "China's smart mattress began to develop from about 2014, and now after 7 or 8 years, all the technologies and products have promoted the smart mattress, and now it is very mature. Since the second half of last year, almost all mattress companies have been pushing smart mattresses and advocating smart sleep, so today I made such a special exhibition.
In our view, 2021 is the first year of smart sleep, and we look forward to future designers, participants in smart sleep, and mattress companies to jointly promote the development of the smart sleep industry and bring consumers more and more high-quality and healthy sleep experience. ”

Former Vice President of Tencent Carbon Cloud Intelligence VP
“
Why is China pushing hard for intelligence? Because now it has reached the era when biological sciences and informatics take us to a better life.
”
As the founder of MPPsleep Sleep Technology, Liu Yitong has a very in-depth study of sleep: "Our designers have a product design effect, such as a cup, do you think it is to design a cup?" You are designing a way for people to drink water, may not be a cup, such as the bed is of course used to sleep, how to sleep, how to quickly as whom, is actually a brain science problem. ”

Regarding the combination of sleep and industry, Liu Yitong said: "Whether it is a spring or a latex mattress, it actually deals with the problems of materials science and engineering. The intervention of the sensor can do sleep monitoring, heart rhythm, breathing, body movement, pressure, EEG, these are monitoring data, there is a smart bed that can adjust the angle in the middle, which is easier to interact with. How to improve the timeliness of sleep, as well as the depth of sleep, the problem you have to solve is actually what psychology and brain science need to pay attention to. ”
Wang Shumao
Founder of Fengmao Design Femo Design Studio
Curator of D2M design samples
There are many ways to sleep, not necessarily in bed, it may be a sofa, it may be a recliner, it is a seat, such as this furniture.
As the founder of Fengmao Design Femo Design Studio, Wang Shumao shared his views on beds in a historical dimension. "China began to have beds off the ground from the Warring States, and later there was the structure of the Luohan bed, and the atmosphere of the family gathering at that time was that all the guests came to sit on the bed, and there was no concept of a living room.
Later, there were beds with shelves, and then evolved into upholstered furniture, all of which put a mattress on top of something with a strong sense of design. Later evolved into a mattress with intelligence. ”
"There are many ways to sleep, not necessarily spent in bed, maybe a couch, maybe a recliner. As long as this furniture gives you a space you can lie on for a nap. ”

Q&A
Forum dialogue session
Designers as the leader of the tide of the times, they shoulder the natural mission of changing the society and living environment, when the intelligent era has gradually changed people's living habits, how will they think about the relationship between design, intelligence and human settlement?
The dialogue session was presided over by Yan Dong, publisher of Today Furniture and Secretary General of Fujian Furniture Association. We have prepared three questions for everyone to answer together.
Q1:
How to view the development of China's smart home market today?
A
Zhang Wei: My position on smart homes is neutral. Especially after listening to Dr. Wang's detailed explanation of sleep just now, I think this system should be a double-edged sword, a tool, there is no attribute, the key is to see how we use it.
Therefore, for the exploration and development of this field in the future, it is definitely a continuous development, but the current situation is still more biased towards the inversion of the cart before the horse, as if it is intelligent for the sake of intelligence, and it is not advisable to find the fundamental, blindly looking at the surface.
Li Le: The development of smart homes is very fast, but this kind of fast I think more is the electronics industry or the IT industry slowly penetrated into the traditional home industry to have such an effect, if you only look at the intelligent development of the home industry, or in a groping stage.
I used to do service-related work, these years to re-try to do some home category design, there is one of the biggest sensory differences, found that the industry companies or practitioners, very do not pay attention to people, they only pay attention to things. I think that if more companies take the road of intelligence, it is a good direction to change, because this direction must pay attention to the changes in people's behavior needs to know how to make better products.
Another is that China's home furnishing industry has a characteristic is not good at doing 0-1 things, very good at doing 1-10 to 20 work, this trend our industry needs to enrich their own team, expand their horizons, more imaginative to do some things, in the long run is a good thing.
Liu Yitong: When I shared it just now, there is a core point, how to put these tool attribute things, better do user research, and do more in-depth things for users. Like the cognitive brain science I studied, it's not just a simple study, there are more than 5200 sleep clinics in the U.S. market, there are counselors, there are various detection devices, there may be 36 computers, tracking where your problem is.
Because everyone's lifestyle is different, now it is not to say that a product is OK, clinical medicine is to make a unified sample, but it is precisely sleep this thing, at the clinical level can not be solved.
Back in the present, I think we should not experience too much intelligence, and intelligent as a gimmick selling point. Now there are studies of anthropology, study of color, including cognitive brain science, psychology, not to say that high looks can sleep well, I look at my sleep data sleep well.
Yuan Yuan: I personally feel that intelligence is something, on the one hand, everyone is talking about intelligence, but intelligence brings general anxiety to human beings. How to solve it is a big problem, including our home, most of which are based on aesthetics and creativity, do not bring direct functions, and may bring more people's emotions and feelings. Similarly, I hope that in the process of giving, smart homes will make people feel safe, comfortable, and how to combine with people's emotions.
For example, I sit here, today the body is not very good, may be low body temperature, it can sense, and then slightly add a little heat, so that I feel comfortable sitting here, in a more humane way, rather than the way the data is directly given, it will make people feel very kind.
Wang Shumao: "How to integrate intelligence into furniture, rather than intelligence for the sake of intelligence, I think there are many aspects involved, engineering, psychology, and various structures, so that an object can truly present a person's ideas." I think everything is semi-intelligent now, because it needs to be manipulated by hand, not by itself. ”
Q2:
With the rapid development of the smart home era, how to consider the linkage of a product when designing it?
Zhang Wei: I myself was very early to contact this field, but for a long time it was very embarrassing, the intelligent system is not intelligent, it is very strong in the industry, and many people in the back feel very embarrassed, and the key problem here is the linkage scene, such as external non-integration, such as the operation is not smooth, or the linkage relationship situation.
I think it's important to change this situation quickly and make it react according to our needs, whether it's in furniture or any intelligent system in space.
Li Le: I think it is still necessary to pay attention to people themselves, because the linkage clues between all products still need a series of series of human behaviors. Pay attention to people's behavior will have information flow, data flow, and then flow to the next scene, trigger the next behavior, which requires deep mining of the product side, I think it is difficult to do in the home industry now.
But the change of the scene is a point that can be dug deeply, just like sleep this thing can have a lot of new scenes, maybe a lot of seats on the car or other devices in the future have the possibility of sleep, for the home industry, now sell the bed, may sell patents later, patents are how to make people better rest, this is my idea.
Liu Yitong: What I do is service design, and finally we can form brain science, including all the hot data, cold data, and we can get a decision right away. How do we get involved in our current system of eating, living, and traveling? We need the system and intelligence to complete the work of 60 points, I do not want to sweep the floor, the sweeping robot to help me sweep the ground, I am thinking about my home door is closed, I look at the mobile phone, my home has been closed, intelligence should be as a human backing, I think this is a better linkage state.
Yuan Yuan: I think that now intelligence has become a gimmick, which is a common situation in the home furnishing industry, why is this so? Probably because Chinese are more flattering and don't like to do hard things, because 0-1 is very difficult, inventing a thing is very difficult, and no one wants to do lasting research and invention.
China lacks a working habit of cross-border cooperation, and it is very easy for us to limit ourselves to our own fields. If we can really cooperate across borders and combine technology, art, production and commerce very well, I think There is a lot of soil in China that can produce world-leading products, because the resources of various industries in China are still very good, and I hope that the future can be better.
Wang Shumao: If one day everything that enters the home can be linked, this is also very worrying. Because a person's living habits are recorded by data, life may not be guaranteed at all, for example, I said to others that supper to eat barbecue or hot pot, the mobile phone will recommend nearby restaurants, so I think smart products or to ensure privacy first, data can not be guaranteed to be leaked out, the impact on people is very large.
Q3:
Today's home furnishing products are increasingly inclined to integrate multiple functions, what challenges do you think this poses to designers, and how to deal with them?
Zhang Wei: This is a good guide, but when Party A makes these requirements, the designer should rationally judge whether this demand is reasonable. In addition, I think furniture may combine some changes in space, because the house price is getting higher and higher, and the living area of people is getting smaller and smaller, how to solve the role that furniture should play in a limited space in this case, I think this angle is OK.
Li Le: First of all, it is not that the customer feels that this function will pay for it, a way to judge is to see whether the superposition of product functions meets the needs of this user, and it is a high-frequency demand, if not, you are not accepted in the price.
How to do this thing in the smart home industry, I think it is still necessary to learn from the Internet industry how to do software products, first study and determine the needs of users and then convert them into functions, assess what needs to be done, and which can bring value improvement.
Liu Yitong: This question first depends on the habits of Chinese, Chinese use chopsticks, Westerners use knives and forks, a chopstick has many functions, and the wisdom of the East is multi-purpose.
People's social change is a big change in system theory, designers are used to trial and error, is used to explore new user experience, and then after the unified coordination and management of all the things in material engineering, in turn think of the word function. Back to the most core family life, I think that innovative behavior must go beyond functionalism, because embodying people is the core.
Yuan Yuan: In fact, functionality has been said from the beginning of design. From a physical point of view, people's lives should be more and more comfortable, all inventions, all modern technology is progressing, but why are people now unwilling to get married, unwilling to have children, how much enthusiasm for life?
So whether the design is really solving the most basic needs of people, or is it solving seemingly important, but there is no very important problem, resulting in the most basic needs not being answered. How to solve these problems in design is worth thinking about.
Wang Shumao: I think the multi-functional should be divided into scenes and people to see. To do any product, first of all, there must be this demand, and to have logic, so that you feel very smooth, can not force the two things together, just Li Le said that the toilet and the kitchen dialogue, if it is really a multi-functional use, the toilet detects your physical condition, and the kitchen says what diet you want to improve, I think it is really a very intelligent scene experience, multi-functional combination, there may still be a demand for the market.
Free Debate Session:
If you can choose,
Is the era of artificial intelligence coming?
Square: Coming!
Li Le: I support all kinds of technologies to move forward, because whether it is good technology or bad technology, everything has two sides, and someone needs to use it to build, and the other piece is also indispensable, that is, to restrict it and guard it.
Liu Yitong: From my personal point of view, I am very much looking forward to intelligence helping me do some things that I don't want to do, such as feeding cats, people themselves are lazy, I hope that intelligence can help me do some things, be a servant of people, rather than us being intelligent servants.
Wang Shumao: My point is that I hope to come as soon as possible, because there can be one more choice, but if you are not used to it, you can adjust to another mode, at least one more choice.
Neutral: Game while using
Yuan Yuan: I think there is nothing wrong with both choices, or this is the need of human nature, because we want to be lazy, so there are more and more intelligent, and I am using it while playing.
The opposite: Don't come!
Zhang Wei: If I had the choice, I would definitely like to be able to slow down, I still enjoy the era of non-intelligence. I hope that there will be some fireworks, more natural, can see and touch the era, even if it is a little troublesome, the reason why people are human or they still have to feel.
This forum everyone expressed their own views, dialogue is unique, around the intelligent era, to provide us with many interesting views, I believe see here you will also have some of your own thinking about the intelligent era. We'll see you at the next forum!
