David "Big Papi" Ortiz is the latest ambassador for cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
The Major League Baseball (MLB) legend, who hit more than 500 home runs and brought back three World Series titles for the Boston Red Sox, has agreed to a multi-year deal with the exchange.
As part of the agreement, Big Papi will receive cryptocurrency compensation through an FTX application and release multiple collections of irreplaceable tokens (NFTs), according to a press release.
FTX now has a strong lineup of athlete ambassadors, and Ortiz has perfected the U.S. professional sports triple crown alongside Tom Brady in soccer and Stephen Curry in basketball. In the first game of the 2021 World Series, TV commercials referencing the Ortiz trade (and mention Brady and Curry) began airing Tuesday night.
FTX will also serve as a title sponsor of David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic and make a donation to his charity, David Ortiz Children's Fund.
The cryptocurrency exchange, led by CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, is becoming increasingly familiar with Major League Baseball, and its current sponsorship includes the league's refereeing uniform and a logo patch on "Moonblasts," in which the exchange donated $10,000 feet for each of the more than 425 playoff home runs.
