Zheng Guizhen, a 39-year-old rural primary school teacher in Li County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, has not been able to get pregnant for 20 years due to blocked fallopian tubes. Zheng Guizhen's family has been passed on for three generations, and the old grandfather who is over ninety years old often chants: "If Guizhen can't give birth to a doll, I can't close my eyes" Which makes Zheng Guizhen extremely sad. Coincidentally, not long after, she heard the report of "The Gospel of Infertility - IVF" from the CCTV "Kyushu Fangyuan" program. That night, Zheng Guizhen and her husband shed tears and wrote a letter to the host of the program, Zhao Zhongxiang.

Soon, Zheng Guizhen received a reply from the Third Hospital of Peking University and immediately rushed to Beijing. On June 20, Zheng Guizhen was officially admitted to the hospital, and was diagnosed with blocked tubals on both sides and also suffered from tuberculous pelvic inflammatory disease. On the 24th, Professor Zhang Lizhu of the Third Hospital of Peking University surgically removed 4 mature eggs for her, added the culture solution, and put them into the incubator for culture. After a few hours, Zheng Guizhen's husband's semen was processed and combined with the eggs in a incubator, which is often referred to as in vitro fertilization.

After successful IVF, Zhang Lizhu put the fertilized eggs into a special test tube to develop, and the developing eggs gradually split into 3 to 5 cells of embryos (this is the source of the name "IVF"). Two days later, Zhang Lizhu moved the embryo into Zheng Guizhen's womb.

After 10 days, Zheng Guizhen felt nauseous and wanted to throw up, and she happily shouted to Zhang Lizhu: "I am pregnant!" Although the experienced Zhang Lizhu could see it at a glance, she still did a urine pregnancy reaction test for Zheng Guizhen, and after confirming the pregnancy, she smiled happily.

After being pregnant in October, a baby croaked to the ground. This is the birth of Chinese mainland first case of IVF. The baby is named Zheng Mengzhu, weighs 7 pounds and 8 pairs, and is 52 cm long. At that moment, as the creator of the little life, Professor Zhang Lizhu's excitement was no less than that of the mother of the baby.

A few years later, Zheng Guizhen said in an interview that after Mengzhu was born, her health has been very good, she has only had a fever once when she grew up so big, she went to school at the age of 5, she was the earliest to go to school in the town, her academic performance was also good, and she was still a "child leader" in the town. Meng Zhu's father took over the stubble and said: "Meng Zhu can be strong, now weighs 40 kilograms, height 1.5 meters, almost catch up with her mother." ”

Since then, Zhang Lizhu and her research group have matured in IVF research technology and breeding level, and continue to climb to new heights. On February 6, 1995, Professor Zhang Lizhu successfully "created" the first case of freeze-thaw embryonic IVF in China, making a new breakthrough in China's IVF technology.
