From 1980 to 1989, the two countries fought on the Sino-Vietnamese border for a decade. The Battle of Laoshan and the Battle of Yinshan are two of the most famous battles, and the story we want to tell today occurred when the Battle of Laoshan was at its most intense.
The male protagonist of "Dead Kiss" is called Zhao Weijun, born in 1968 in Lujiagou Village, Yuzhong County, Gansu Province. Because his family was relatively poor, Zhao Weijun had to drop out of school to help with farm work at home after reading for a few years.
When doing farm work, Zhao Weijun often listened to his grandfather tell the story of the People's Liberation Army, which made him full of yearning for the PLA troops since he was a child, and often fantasized that when he grew up, he would also become a brave PLA soldier.
Occasionally, he would hear about the counterattack against Vietnam, and whenever he heard it, he felt the same way, as if he were the people on the frontier who were oppressed by Vietnam, and he was angry, and he really wanted to go to the battlefield to fight with the enemy himself.
In 1985, with the support of his family, Zhao Weijun, who had always wanted to join the army, enlisted in the army. It didn't take long for him to fulfill his wish: he was really on the battlefield of the counterattack against Vietnam.
On the battlefield, Zhao Weijun was not afraid of danger, performed very bravely on the front line, and soon became the deputy squad leader of the 5th Company of the 421st Regiment of the 141st Division of the People's Liberation Army.
Battle of Lao Shan
Lao Shan, at an altitude of 1442 meters, is an ordinary riding line point on the border between China and Vietnam.
After the military confrontation focusing on The Farka Mountains, the Koulin Mountains, and the Ziyin Mountains was eliminated, the Chinese and Vietnamese sides gradually shrank their defenses. Since March 5, 1984, after a large-scale surgical operation, the focus has been on Laoshan and stabilized in this specific area of Laoshan, and the Chinese and Vietnamese sides have launched a fierce battle for the Laoshan Theater.
It was during this period that Zhao Weijun came to Laoshan with the troops.
Although there were no large-scale military operations at that time, local tensions were not eliminated. Therefore, when Zhao Weijun reached Laoshan, he was both frightened and curious.
Except for the occasional explosion of cold guns and mines, like firecrackers in the New Year, bringing a little bit of excitement, the whole old mountain seems particularly deserted.
After Zhao Weijun arrived at Laoshan, they were doing temporary training almost every day. Until April 25, I received an order from my superiors to prepare to take the initiative to fight back against the Vietnamese army that had long encroached on China's territory, harassed our borders, and brutally killed our border people.
Zhao Weijun rubbed his hands, somewhat excited, pressed the bullets to the full, and wiped the gun again and again, lest he not make a sound when attacking the charge. After loosening the lid of the grenade, he also stuck the first aid kit with a white towel on his left arm.

Treated in a field hospital
One day in July 1985, the Laoshan Theater ushered in a fierce large-scale battle. Vietnam mobilized a large number of troops from the south and launched a fierce attack on the Chinese army.

As soon as his feet left the ground, the bomb exploded with it. Only a "bang" was heard, and the dust from the mine explosion covered Zhao Weijun. His legs were also injured by the bomb, and the pain from his legs immediately hit his whole body, causing the green tendons on his face to burst out.
Zhao Weijun looked down at his injuries and was glad in his heart that he had only been injured in his legs instead of losing his life. Then he clenched his teeth and couldn't help himself from shouting.
The military doctors and nurses of the field ambulance team also saw this scene, and they quickly ran to Zhao Weijun with first aid kits and stretchers. At this time, the blood on Zhao Weijun's legs had soaked the land around him, and the person had fallen into a coma, but the pain still made him twitch constantly.
When doctors and nurses helped Zhao Weijun with emergency treatment, a nurse named Zhang Ru took a piece of gauze and put it in Zhao Weijun's mouth to prevent him from biting his tongue.
Subsequently, Zhao Weijun was sent to the field hospital. After some rescue by the doctor, Zhao Weijun's legs were temporarily saved.
After waking up from the coma, Zhao Weijun first saw that his legs were still there, but the pain soon caused him to fall into a coma again. Yes, he didn't know how far his legs had been blown up, and the unbearable pain made him think his legs had been blown up.

After waiting for two days, the field hospital rescue team finally waited for the rescue helicopter. But the terrain of Laoshan is very complicated, there is no place to land, and the helicopter lingers around Laoshan for three or four hours without coming down.
Zhang Ru and his comrades-in-arms could only wait bitterly on a stretcher, hoping that a miracle would happen.

Therefore, Zhang Ru followed Wang Hong on the front line of Laoshan mountain and reproduced the scene at that time.
When shooting, Zhang Ru always thinks of Zhao Weijun, and she also tears several times for this. And her camaraderie has also deeply touched everyone around her.
After the shooting, Zhang Ru couldn't control her tears, and she hid in a corner alone and cried, she hoped that Zhao Weijun was still alive at this moment.
Later, this photo was named "Dead Kiss", and Wang Hong also participated in this "Dead Kiss" in the photography national exhibition of that year.
Goodbye old comrades-in-arms
After the two rounds of mountain battles, Zhang Ru did not continue to stay in the army, but returned to his original life. After retiring from the military, she transferred to Northwestern Polytechnical University to work responsible for the teaching and management of students.
The memory of Lao Shan has always hovered in her heart, and Zhao Weijun's figure will also appear in her memories, and every time she thinks of it, she will have tears.
Zhang Ru also did not forget the other martyrs who sacrificed their lives. In 2011, Zhang Ru and his comrades-in-arms launched a "mission journey" to "pay tribute to the heroic souls of martyrs and care for the relatives of martyrs". In 2015, 29 years after Zhao Weijun's sacrifice, Zhang Ru and comrades-in-arms from all over the country came to the martyrs' cemetery where their comrades were buried to pay tribute to their comrades who died.
