In every war, I don't know how many youthful fangs have disappeared on the battlefield, they are our brothers, sisters, comrades and comrades-in-arms... Behind every disappearing life, there are nostalgic stories, or sadness or touching...
These stories are like notes that never fade away, beating and reverberating in our lives.
The story behind "Death Kiss" is the note that never stops, which has been lingering in the lives of survivors and swirling in the memories of the Chinese people.
On February 17, 1979, in the face of Vietnam's intensified provocations, the people's liberation army Chinese intolerable and launched a self-defense counterattack against Vietnam. After the bloody struggle of our heroic PLA soldiers, after achieving a series of strategic victories, on March 16 of that year, it was announced that the combat objectives and tasks were completed and the troops were withdrawn in victory.
Since then, Vietnam has not been content with the humiliation of defeat and has continued to invade and destroy our border areas.
In order to thoroughly crack down on Vietnam's acts of aggression, from 1980 to 1989, the two countries fought on the Sino-Vietnamese border for another ten years, the most important of which was the rotational battle that occurred in the Lao Shan and Eryin Shan areas from 1984 to 1989, and the 10 group armies of the People's Liberation Army took turns to fight, which is the famous Two Mountains Round Battle.
In the 10-year border war, our army killed, wounded, or wounded about 100,000 Vietnam People's Army and other armed personnel. In the Battle of the Two Hills, the Vietnamese suffered 30,695 casualties. The war was cruel, our army also had 4603 casualties in the battle of the two mountains, and Zhao Weijun, a small soldier who died in the famous tear-jerking photo "Death Kiss", was one of the martyrs who sacrificed his life for the country.
Zhao Weijun, a young soldier from Lujiagou Village, Yuzhong County, Gansu Province, was born in 1968 and enlisted in the army in 1985, and was the deputy squad leader of the 5th Company of the 421st Regiment of the 141st Division of the People's Liberation Army. At the time of his sacrifice, he was only 18 years old, 18 years old, in fact, he was still a child, and now the children of this age are still studying, and Zhao Weijun sacrificed his young life in a fierce battle.
On July 24, 1986, during the battle to capture Lao Shan, he took the initiative to attack the vanguard, but unfortunately he was injured in his legs by a mine planted by the Vietnamese army. The blood of the warrior is flowing, and the life of the warrior may be lost at any time. The military doctors and nurses of the field ambulance team treated his wounds urgently, and Zhao Weijun's life was temporarily saved.

Born in 1965, Zhang Ru's ancestral home is Guo Village, Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province, his grandfather is an old Red Army who participated in the Southern Expedition and the Northern War, and his parents are technicians in aviation scientific research. Due to the needs of work, her parents have not been at home for many years, and she usually has no time to take care of her, so Zhang Ru spent her childhood in her hometown Guo Village under the care of her grandmother and aunt.
In 1983, Zhang Ru, who responded to the call of the motherland, enlisted in the army in Xi'an. In November 1985, Zhang Ru, who was already a hygienist in the field women's ambulance team of the 139th Infantry Division Hospital of the 47th Army, risked his life to go to the front line of the war-torn Laoshan Mountain and participate in the rescue mission of the wounded at the field hospital of the manggundong division command post.
Mangun Cave, located at the foot of Laoshan Mountain on the border between China and Vietnam in Malipo County, Yunnan, also known as General Cave, is very famous on the front line of Laoshan Mountain.
During the Battle of Laoshan, Mangun Cave was the divisional command post of the 139th Division. At that time, Fu Quanyou, Liao Xilong and other senior generals once commanded Laoshan to fight in this cave, and the general cave got its name.
At that time, the commander of the 47th Army was Qian Shugen, and later he became the deputy chief of the general staff and was awarded the rank of general.
The commander of the 139th Division was Huang Junjie, who later served as the director of the Xi'an Army Academy with the rank of major general.
The entrance to the Cave of Mangun is small and can only be passed by a single person, but the cave is unique and can accommodate thousands of people. The field hospital of the 139th Division is just below the right outside the Mangun Cave.
At the Mangundong Field Hospital, Zhang Ru was involved in rescuing many wounded PLA fighters. Among them are the first-class combat hero Xu Liang, the "king of mine clearance" Luo Muyuan and other heroic figures. Zhao Weijun, a first-class meritorious person, is one of the heroes she rescued.
In the test of blood and fire, Zhang Ru joined the party and was awarded the third class of personal merit, and the women's ambulance team in the field where he belonged was also awarded the collective second class merit.
In the war years, there were very few female soldiers on the battlefield, and most of them were concentrated in units such as health teams, performance teams and communication teams, and those soldiers who fought on the battlefield rarely saw female soldiers in peacetime.
For these wounded soldiers, the female soldiers of the ambulance team are the most beautiful scenery in their eyes. As a nurse, Zhang Ru, after the baptism of battlefield rescue, took great care of these wounded little soldiers, and was particularly kind to them.
Zhao Weijun, whose legs were injured, came to the field hospital and received meticulous care from Zhang Ru, who affectionately called her "sister".
Zhang Ru, like everyone else, likes this strong little warrior very much, and hopes that he can carry through the most difficult moments and save his young life.
Unfortunately, due to the harsh conditions on the battlefield and the rudimentary conditions of the field hospital, Zhao Weijun's wounds were infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which was in danger of life at any time and had to be amputated. The military doctors and nurses immediately got busy, and in the process of rushing against the clock, the little soldier had been suffering from a high fever and was unconscious, and everyone was anxious and nervous, and they all pinched a handful of sweat for him, hoping that he could survive.
After Zhao Weijun was sent to the field hospital, he was always cared for by Zhang Ru, a hygienist of the 47th Army's field women's ambulance team. At this time, Zhang Ru looked at the unconscious Zhao Weijun, both worried and anxious.
Zhao Weijun, who was amputated, was in a very bad condition, his injuries worsened, and he remained in a comatose state for several days after the operation. Limited to the conditions of the field hospital, the troops sent helicopters to prepare to take him back to the hospital in good condition in the rear for treatment.
The ambulance staff of the field hospital finally waited for the rescue helicopter, but the terrain here was too complicated to find a place to land, the plane often circled for three or four hours and could not get down, Zhang Ru and other nurses could only carry the stretcher and waited, hoping that the miracle could appear.

At noon on July 28th, Zhao Weijun, who had been unconscious for a long time, finally woke up and opened his eyes that had been closed for a long time, but this was the last time he opened his eyes.
Probably realizing that his time was short, Zhao Weijun, who had just woken up, asked Zhang Ru, who was accompanying him: Sister, in which direction is Lanzhou" At this time, Zhang Ru, where did not know that Zhao Weijun's life had actually entered the countdown, too late to speak, hurriedly pointed with his finger to the northwest, and then together with other female medical nurses, pointed Zhao Weijun's stretcher at the northwest direction.
Looking in the direction of his hometown in the northwest, Zhao Weijun said weakly: Parents, I may not be able to go back, I did not embarrass you...
After Zhao Weijun finished saying the words left for his parents, he was already very weak at this time, and he almost exhausted the only strength he had, looked up at Zhang Ru and said: Sister, I may not be able to do it, but I don't regret it. My only regret is that I have not been in love, I heard that life without love is not complete, sister, can I hug you?
Although Zhao Weijun's request was unexpected by Zhang Ru, Zhang Ru did not have time to think about it at all, leaned over and picked him up, leaving a touching kiss!
Zhao Weijun smiled and tilted his head, and he fell into her arms, a young life, and never woke up again.
At this time, Zhang Ru could not suppress his tears and held Zhao Weijun tightly in his arms. Not long ago, the fresh life of the living life who was still fighting bloody battles on the battlefield and killing the enemy and repaying the country left in her hands! Zhang Ru, who could no longer bear it, lost his voice and wept!
The martyrs have been buried for a long time, turned into rolling mountains, and on the flag of the republic, there is the style of martyrs' blood!
The martyrs are gone, but the moving story is circulating in the battlefield, and it has also deeply touched Wang Hong, a photographic officer of the 47th Army who interviewed him in the battlefield.
Keen and professional quality and a strong sense of responsibility prompted Wang Hong to resolve to use the method of make-up shooting to restore and record the touching scene at that time. He hopes to tell people that war is cruel by restoring the scenes at that time, there is no poetry and far away, only the fragility of life and the comradeship that cannot be abandoned!
He immediately found Zhang Ru and communicated his thoughts with her. Originally, she was worried that she would be rejected by Zhang Ru, but she did not expect that she was very cooperative and agreed to his request. Because in Zhang Ru's heart, keeping the memory of that moment is the best remembrance of the martyrs.
Therefore, in the 1986 Laoshan front, this photo called "Dead Kiss" is that under such circumstances, Zhang Ru's kiss full of comrade-in-arms was forever frozen in the memory of history by Wang Hong with the camera in his hand.

Wang Hong, born in Xi'an in 1956, is also a military family. After joining the army in 1976, he first served in the command squad of the anti-aircraft machine gun company of the directly subordinate detachment of the 417th Infantry Regiment, and then because of the needs of his work, he began to do news photography, and graduated from the journalism department of the Nanjing Institute of Political Science of the People's Liberation Army.
In 1985, Wang Hong participated in the defense of Vietnam as a photographer. On October 14, 1986, he "squeezed into" the commando team to participate in the "LanJian B Operation", in which he was seriously injured and was awarded several times with various awards such as first class merit.
After Wang Hong changed careers, she worked in the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone Daily and retired in 2007 due to health reasons.
Wang Hong's legendary work "Dead Kiss" was once cast in the photography national exhibition of that year after shooting, but unfortunately, this photo was not shortlisted for the award on the grounds of not being in line with the national conditions, but it attracted great attention.

The little soldier Zhao Weijun in the photo has been sacrificed, and the heroine Zhang Ru's life trajectory in it has always touched the hearts of the Chinese people, how did she do afterwards, and was she okay?
After the end of the battle between the two mountains, Zhang Ru also returned to a normal life. After retiring from the military, he transferred to Northwestern Polytechnical University and was responsible for the teaching management of undergraduate students.
The special experience of the war made Zhang Ru's life closely linked with the martyrs who sacrificed in Laoshan, the job position changed, and the life experience also underwent great changes, but she has never forgotten the martyrs who sacrificed on the battlefield.

With an urgent sense of mission and a sense of life and death for the sacrificed comrades-in-arms, in 2011, Zhang Ru and his comrades-in-arms launched a "mission journey" to "pay tribute to the heroic souls of martyrs and care for the relatives of martyrs". In the past five years, they have overcome many difficulties and traveled thousands of kilometers, visiting 32 counties and municipalities in 9 provinces and visiting the relatives of 43 martyrs.
They sent not only some condolences to the relatives of the martyrs, but also the remembrance of all those comrades who died on the battlefield and their admiration for their loved ones.
Under the leadership of Zhang Ru, they have fulfilled the "promise of life and death in the youth book" again and again, which has aroused strong repercussions throughout the country, more and more people have consciously joined Zhang Ru's team, and their activities have also expanded into a nationwide action to care for the relatives of martyrs.

On May 1, 2015, 29 years after the martyrdom of Zhao Weijun, Zhang Ru and comrades-in-arms from all over the country met to come to the place where the martyrs buried their bones to pay tribute to the comrades who died.
In the Xinglong Mountain Martyrs Cemetery in Yuzhong County, Gansu Province, the tombstones of the martyrs of Zhao Weijun stand quietly. Zhang Ru and his comrades carefully placed flowers and sacrifices in front of the martyr's tomb and sprinkled a glass of spirits.
Looking at the words "Tomb of The Martyr of Zhao Weijun" on the tombstone, Zhang Ru could no longer hold back his tears, sobbing and murmuring: My comrade-in-arms, it has been 29 years in the blink of an eye, I don't know if you heard my heartbeat at that moment of embrace; if I can keep your life and smile, I am willing to hold you all the time!
At this moment, no language can express the feelings of the living people for the thoughts of sacrificing their comrades-in-arms, the war is merciless, and the comrades-in-arms are priceless!
On the Qingming Festival in 2018, Zhang Ru, who returned to his hometown of Jiangdu, accompanied by Teng Chengshun, Rong Genxi, and other veterans of the former 67th Army, visited the memorial hall where the ashes of martyr Chen Gang were placed, and remembered this martyred small soldier who was also from Jiangdu.
In July 1985, the life of Chen Gang, the former signal soldier of the 67th Army, was forever frozen at the age of 18, and for the sake of the motherland, he dedicated his young life to the laoshan front.
With admiration and longing for the martyrs, Zhang Ru placed flowers in front of the urn of martyr Chen Gang. Comrades-in-arms who were born and died together stood silently in front of the martyr's urn and presented a solemn military salute to the martyr.
Although there is still busy work, Zhang Ru has not stopped her steps, she is willing to use her life's energy to continue to pay attention to the relatives of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, and is willing to do a little bit of meager efforts for them to comfort the martyrs who are buried underground.
