According to reports, the research team of Zhejiang University conducted an experiment for couples and singles once each. In the first experiment, each of the 30 couples who didn't know each other independently evaluated the face attractiveness of themselves, their lovers, and other subjects. It was found that the participants in love not only significantly overestimated their lover's appearance, but also significantly overestimated their own appearance. In the second experiment, participants were 60 single-person men and women, each of whom underwent two facial attractiveness assessments, self and others. The results showed that single subjects also overestimated their facial attractiveness, but to a much lesser extent than couples.

"On the question of 'whether it looks good or not', although the criteria for judging vary from person to person, psychologists always try to capture the general laws of difference. Previous face attraction studies have been conducted from the perspective of other people's evaluations, but our study has introduced self-assessment of participants. Ge Liezhong said that experiments have shown that the relationship will amplify the difference between the lover's evaluation and the other's evaluation of the lover, but also enlarge the difference between the self-evaluation and the evaluation of others, this "lover's eyes out of the West" effect and the lover's self-face overestimation effect, help to improve personal self-confidence, consolidate the relationship between the couple.
