Roll and roll and grow up

90 years ago, Christopher Robin was also "cheated" once.

My father said he was going to write a book for him, but he didn't expect it to belong to the whole world.

The book also affected him all his life, not very good kind.

[Goodbye, Christopher Robin] is named after the original author of "Winnie the Pooh", A. The true story of A. Milne and his son Robin is based on it.

It tells the story of the trauma behind a warm fairy tale.

The history of Christopher Robin with his father

There is no direct evidence that A. A. Milne returned from the battlefield with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).

But the war did affect him, and he confessed in his autobiography that war was a nightmare of spiritual and moral degradation.

Winnie the Pooh became a phenomenon-level picture book after World War I, almost everyone had a copy.

The reason for this, the film's nanny Olive explains: "People after the war are full of sadness, they can't remember what happiness looks like. Winnie the Pooh is like a faucet, and you turn around and happiness flows out. ”

In the movie, Christopher doesn't want to share this happiness. Insisting that he is "Billy Moon" draws a line with the boy in the book who plays with Poohney by the same name.

In fact, until the age of eight or nine, Christopher still enjoyed the feeling of being famous, and even recorded it specifically. "It felt really good, I thought it was important."

After entering boarding school, everything changed.

Everyone laughed and bullied him, shouting, "Christopher Robin." The name became harsh and hateful.

In the movie, his father tells him, "People will eventually forget Pooh and will soon like new things." ”

But this time, people are not so quick to like the new and dislike the old.

Christopher Robin went to join the army. In the movie, this becomes a turning point in his understanding of his father. They went home hand in hand again.

But the reality seems to be more brutal.

After joining the army, Christopher returned to Cambridge to continue his studies. After graduation, it is always impossible to find a suitable job. He believes that his father stole his name as the root cause of his misfortunes.

Until the death of his parents, he could not reach a settlement.

The negative effects of Winnie the Pooh are not just the breakdown of family relationships.

A.A. Milne revealed in his later autobiography, It's Too Late Now, that everyone was asking him about Winnie the Pooh, much to his dismay.

He was only 46 years old when he completed the Pooh series, but his career as a writer seems to have come to an end. No one cared about his later works.

At the age of 60, Christopher Robin said in an interview: "I can watch the Winnie the Pooh series without fear. ”

See what the creators have to say

In the real world, Christopher Robin and his father have always had a stiff relationship. The actors inside and outside the play are still very loving.

The director said that the film shows a world full of pain after the First World War, and the theme is still love.

Christopher's summer alone with his father, the dependence with the nanny, and the mother, although absent for most of the time, are also the names of the "little animals".

His favorites are those tender moments.

Play in the forest

Will Tilston had seen the winnie the pooh story before the audition and knew Christopher Robin was a real character.

I thought I was going to be a child playing happily with animals in the forest, but I didn't expect it to be a sad story.

He felt that Christopher was a man who was split, such as at breakfast, when he was angry, but he was amused by a joke that his father was very cold.

The relationship between father and son seems to have mixed into something special.

Amusing clips

Domnal Gleason, the only person in the lead who had not seen "Winnie the Pooh" before filming began, was touched by this father-son relationship and decided to participate.

In order to play the role well, he consulted a large number of books on PTSD, as well as A.A. Milne's autobiography.

As for the relationship with the little actor: "I'll tell Tillston, listen, our relationship sometimes doesn't look like a friend, but at the end of the day, we become friends again."

I would yell at him and scare him, and he would sometimes do the same to me. We will give each other a little time and space to speculate before the official performance, and we have a very pleasant cooperation.

He's a very, very funny kid, we're always playing and laughing, maybe I have the sense of humor of a ten-year-old, and there's always a lot of jokes. ”

The way Domnar Gleason used to regulate the atmosphere was quite peculiar. He would make some kind of special noise:

Margaret next to her laughed wildly

Compared to the naïve world of Winnie the Pooh, [goodbye, Christopher Robin] is full of darkness and trauma.

But this is still a whitewashed true story. Like the director said, he tried to find some sort of balance between emotion and hurt.

Such "neutralization" is not the originality of director Simon Curtis.

In the film "The West Sugamo Abandoned Baby Incident", kore-eda arranged a friend for his brother Ming, who went to the airport with a suitcase containing his sister's body to fulfill his sister's wish to see the plane take off.

The reality is that the four children abandoned by their mothers have no friends, and the older brother Ming is even responsible for the death of his little sister.

The film [Suyuan] is based on the 2012 Rape Case of Cho Doo-soon in South Korea, and the ending gives the audience hope and warmth.

The reality is that the victim is permanently disabled and the killer is eventually arrested, but the court sentenced the murderer to only 12 years in prison on the grounds that he was drunk at the time.

A heartbreaking scene

Weakening reality is not a compromise.

We need the courage to face reality, but also to prevent being engulfed by the darkness of reality and losing confidence in the positive aspects of beauty and warmth.

As in [Goodbye, Christopher Robin] in that warm summer with the final reconciliation, the director says, "These are the lights that are thrown into the dark reality." ”
