Yang Duo is the former deputy director of the People's Congress of Qujing City (county-level city) in Qujing District. Born in June 1925, he joined the Communist Party in November 1948 and retired in October 1987.

As a student, he actively participated in the "One-Two-One" movement against the Kuomintang dictatorship and the anti-civil war, and joined the Democratic Youth League in 1947. In 1949, Yang Duo returned to his hometown of Malone to carry out armed struggle and persuaded his three brothers to join the revolution. After the liberation of Ma Long, counter-revolutionaries and bandits launched a riot, and Yang Duo used the earthen fort of his old home to provide cover for the armed militia to resist the bandits and persist in the struggle. Looking back on the glorious years of the past and the happy life of the present dynasty, Yang Duo, 96, said: "The Communist Party of China is people-centered, and he has led the people to live a good life. ”

Yang Duo, whose original name was Ma Rongxiang, was the youngest son of the Ma family in Dapo Township, Malong County, Qujing City.

In the second half of 1948, driven by the armed revolutionary struggle of the Self-Salvation Army in Yunnan, peasants in five of the six townships of Malong County took up guns and opposed the Kuomintang's grain expropriation. Only the six townships (Dapo) have not yet had peasant riots. In order to prevent the peasants from armed rebellion, the Malong County Government formed a "Dapo Self-Defense Squadron" of more than 30 people in Dapo and Datun, and Yang Duo's second brother Ma Rongxing served as the squadron leader. His eldest brother and fifth brother also served as a security chief and a township chief.

At that time, the Ma family could be regarded as a large household in the countryside, with more than 10 private guns, more than 20 public guns in the self-defense squadron, and more than 100 public and private guns in the hands of each bao, A and nearby squires. If the underground Party organizations can hold these personnel and armed forces in their hands, they will form a considerable armed force. To this end, in January 1949, the Provincial Working Committee decided to establish a revolutionary stronghold in Dapo, the sixth township of Malong, and assigned Yang Duo to do the work of his three brothers, allowing them to use their former positions as security chiefs, township chiefs, and current squadron leaders of the Self-Defense Forces to cover the establishment of revolutionary strongholds by party cadres.

After returning to his hometown, Yang Duo preached to his brothers the inevitability of the new democratic revolution, and at first the brothers did not understand and fought with him. However, Yang Duo never gave up, and he knew that with great righteousness and affection, he talked about the revolutionary situation and pointed out the future -- only by following the Communist Party was the only way out. Yang Duo used his persistence and conviction to impress the three brothers, who handed over the "self-defense squadron" of more than 30 people and more than 10 rifles at home to the party organization, established the Dapo Armed Workers Brigade, and opened up a revolutionary base area in Malong County. The eldest brother Ma Ronghua and the fifth brother Ma Rongguang also joined the armed forces, and the second brother Ma Rongxing also gloriously joined the Communist Party of China.

In 1950, although Malone County was liberated, banditry was still rampant, with more than 700 bandits at its peak. Under the command of Kuomintang agents, the bandits wantonly spread rumors, coerced and deceived the masses to attack the district and township people's governments, arrested and slaughtered cadres, incited the masses to resist grain, and vainly attempted to overthrow the newborn people's power. Yang Duo's second brother, Ma Rongxing, who was then the township chief of Dewei Township, took the lead in the struggle against bandits, led the soldiers to go deep into the villages where the bandits were active, repeatedly provided accurate information to the bandit troops, and dealt a heavy blow to the enemy. However, he himself became a thorn in the bandit's eye. More than a hundred bandits took advantage of the bandits' troops to return to Qujing to rest and kill him in the village of YangtianChong.

"My family has an earthen bunker, which is difficult to break through by bandits stationed by armed militia, and whenever cadres and fighters are threatened by a large number of bandits, they come to my house to take refuge." Yang Duo recalled. At that time, due to the bandits' riots and the multitude of people, more than 10 cadres and fighters of the township government were forced to evacuate, and the cadres of Dapo's grain collection and tax collection were also attacked, and some of the sick departments were injured, and the old mansion of the Ma family became a hidden place and a place of recuperation for everyone, protecting many cadres and soldiers. In August 1950, the Ma family's old residence was besieged by more than 300 bandits, and Yang Duo's eldest brother Ma Ronghua led more than 10 militiamen, together with the deputy platoon commander of the second company of the independent battalion and two soldiers who were recuperating at home, with the favorable conditions of the earth bunker and the strong house, heroically resisted the bandit attack.

"My family is a revolutionary home, and I have never wavered in my belief in always following the party." Yang Duo said resolutely.
