He was the grandson of Duke Zhonghui of Puyang, and the grandson of Duke Wenlu Zhonglie. The "Zhonghui Gong" recorded in the stele is Cai Xiang, the "Wenlu ZhonglieGong" is Wen Yanbo, and Fan Chengda's mother is Cai Xiang's granddaughter, Wen Yanbo's granddaughter.
Fan Chengda's good friend Zhou Bida has said many times: "The Gongcai clan is self-made, and the ancient calligraphy has the magic of the true grass, and people strive to hide it."
