A paradise of love

William Blake (English

Translation/Brahman

I once visited the paradise of love,

See a sight you've never seen before:

There is a church in the garden,

That lawn used to be where I played.

The doors of the church are closed,

The door reads "Pedestrian Stop";

So I turned around and looked for a paradise of love,

There were countless flowers blooming there.

Now there are graves everywhere,

The tombstone dove occupies the place of the flowers,

The priest in black robes patrolled back and forth,

He also bound my joy and desire with thorns.

The Garden of Love

British William Blake

I went to the Garden of love,

And saw what never had seen:

A Chapel was built in the midst,

Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut,

And "Thou shalt not" writ over the door;

So turn'd to the Garden of Love,

That so many sweet flowers bore.

And I saw it was filled with graves,

And tomb-stones where flowers should be:

And Priests in black gowns were walking their rounds,

And binding with briars my joys and desires.
