It has been 50 years since the birth of Lupin III. Why has the work always been loved by everyone? The author himself can't figure it out. Monkey Punch has been a great fan of drawing manga since he was a child, and before his debut, he most admired the late Mr. Osamu Tezuka. Once, he once came across the manga god at a sake brewery in Akasaka, Tokyo. At that time, Mr. Tezuka said to him, "It is not enough to paint Lupin III, you have to paint all kinds of things." ”
Mr. Tezuka's words deeply touched Monkey Punch. However, the editor-in-chief of Shimizu, whom he respected, said to him: "Such a role cannot be easily born." Just go on and paint Lupin. ”
Monkey Punch believes that the reason why the two people have opposite opinions is because the writer and the editor have different positions. Should I paint Lupin for the rest of my life? Sometimes, he also wants to paint other works. The words of these two were really too heavy for him, and he still hadn't found his own answer.
So, for Monkey Punch, what exactly is Lupin III, which has been with him for 50 years? The teacher smiled and said, "This answer is very simple, it is a 'toy'. Not a 'playmate', but a 'toy'. I was the only one who could play with Lupin III. I can set it up as I please, and let the characters go on all sorts of adventures. It can be said that I can do whatever I want. This is my 'toy'. ”

At first, Monkey Punch thought that "there are better paintings, and more interesting drawings" and began to draw with the computer. After painting for a long time, he wanted to go deeper and deeper. In 2003, at the age of 66, Monkey Punch came to the graduate school of Japan University of Technology and began to learn computer painting. "I thought about the future comics ignoring digitization, and I'm not an expert, so I want to hear from all kinds of people," he said. "The desire to improve the level of the work is not endless.
After completing his studies, Monkey Punch transformed himself into a university pulpit. He said to the students, "You have to absorb all kinds of things, because you don't know what will help the work." For example, music has its own story. ”
In Monkey Punch's studio, there are also sound machines. The jazz that flows in the sound and the rhythm of Lupin III's work also complement each other. The teacher also has in-depth research on sound, and even has a room in his home dedicated to enjoying music. He laughed and said: "The sound and the painting are the same, you can't move if you don't see it with your own eyes and listen to it with your own ears."
