Recently, India's Tata Motors Company officially launched the first small SUV "Punch" for the Indian market. To counter the growing number of small SUV products, including hyundai Casper, Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kwid and Mahindra KUV100. Four models were launched: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative, starting at Rs 549,000 and about US$7,287, or RMB46,800.
Tata Punch incorporates the "Impact 2.0" design language. This is the result of a collaboration between Tata's design studios in India, the UK and Italy, where all the design engineering work takes place.
The Punch follows current design trends with split headlights, muscular bodywork, a large plastic cladding on bumpers and side sills, and a two-tone body often seen in this segment. Wheels are 15 inches or 16 inches. In terms of body size, Tata Punch has a length of 3,827 mm (150.6 inches) and a wheelbase of 2,445 mm (96.3 inches), which is larger than the modern Casper, but smaller than the Indian version of the Citroën C3, with a body of less than 4 meters long, which can be called a "micro SUV".
Despite being an entry-level product, Tata hasn't forgotten to increase its off-road capabilities. The Punch has an approach angle of 20.3°, a departure angle of 37.6° and a tilt angle of 22.2°, as well as a wading capacity of 370 mm (14.6 in). This, coupled with a ground clearance of 190 mm (7.5 in), will make it easier to cope with India's infamous roads.
Tata Punch is based on the ALFA (Agile Lightweight Flexible Advanced Architecture) architecture, which also supports altroz Class B hatchbacks. The company said Punch received a 5-star rating in the global NCAP test, which is a remarkable achievement for an Indian-made car of this size.
The interior of the Tata Punch is straightforward and budget-oriented, so it looks rudimentary, but the bright tones on the gauge panel make it look fresh, it can seat up to 5 people, and the maximum capacity of the suitcase is 366 liters (12.9 cubic feet).
In terms of configuration, it is equipped with dual airbags and front power windows. The Adventure model adds a 4-inch center display, 4 speakers, USB charging ports, rear power windows, and more. Accomplished models feature a 7-inch display, six audio speakers, LED taillights, cruise control and start-stop buttons. In addition, the flagship Creative adds a 7-inch screen, automatic air conditioning, fog lights and automatic wipers, rear armrests, leather steering wheels and 16-inch alloy wheels on the dashboard.
Powered, the Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 86 hp (63 kW) and 113 Nm of torque. The drivetrain is mated to a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.
Tata Punch is already available for order in India, starting at Rs 549,000 ($7,287) and creative models up to Rs 939,000 ($12,466 / about $80,000).
