I've always been breeding free-range chickens. I remember when I first started selling chickens, I said that my chickens were native chickens, which were raised in the mountains, eating corn, grass and insects, etc. Customers who have not eaten my chicken are generally still skeptical.
At this time, I will buy other customers at my place, let me help the slaughtered chicken to the new customers, and teach them how to distinguish the quality of the chicken.

Even people who have never raised chickens know that the chickens that were eaten in the countryside before, the chicken fat in the home after opening the belly is golden and yellow, and even the skin of the chicken is white and yellow. And in the market, ordinary, feed-fed chickens, the chicken fat (fat) in their stomachs is white.
In fact, in addition to the chicken itself, there is also a big difference in the color of the eggs of the native chicken and the feed chicken. Normally, the yolk color of native eggs is darker than that of feed chicken eggs. The color of the yolk of the earth egg is even reddish.
These are also the two methods that I used to use to prove to customers that my chicken is a good chicken when I sold native chicken. And these two methods have gradually lost their persuasiveness. The reason is exactly what we are going to talk about today as a colorant.
In fact, whether it is the yolk of the native egg, the fat in the body of the native chicken, or the color of the chicken skin, it is determined by carotenoids. The more carotenoids in the chicken, the darker the color of its corresponding parts.
The chicken body itself can not synthesize carotenoids, and the carotenoids in their bodies are ingested from food. A variety of carotenoids are mainly hidden in various animals and plants such as green vegetables, grasses, insects and so on.
This is why the skin, fat, and even yolk color of the native chicken are darker than the feed chicken. Because they can usually eat a variety of grasses, vegetables, insects, you can get a lot of carotenoids. In the past, feed chickens did not have this opportunity.
But now it's different.
A few days ago, a company engaged in poultry feed additives is sprinting for an IPO on the ChiNext board. It is understood that the company's annual revenue is nearly 300 million, and the revenue of two poultry feed additives accounts for up to 90%, with a total revenue of 286 million yuan. And these two products are exactly the carotenoid products we mentioned above.
According to reports, the main role of these products is to color poultry meat and eggs. According to different needs, the addition of the above products to poultry feed can realize the coloring of egg yolks, poultry skin and muscles, and "meet consumers' requirements for product color".
That is to say, now that poultry is farmed, you can "color" the color of each part of the poultry as needed, which can make the poultry wholesale more yellow, the egg color become redder, and so on.
Of course, the reason why such products can exist is that on the one hand, there is demand in the market, on the other hand, it is also legal and compliant. The use of this carotenoid feed additive should also be more than ten years. It is only recently that the company's IPO has attracted particular attention from the industry.
However, it is a fact that it is now difficult for us to distinguish native chicken from feed chicken by the color of chicken skin, chicken fat, and egg yolk. One of the advantages that native chicken farmers relied on most in the past has disappeared under the power of colorants.
