Zheng Xuan was probably a procrastinator, and the idea was not completed in time. But he can uphold the attitude of "learning first", and it does not matter who makes the results.

More common in academia is the death-defying of the right to invent and discovery, and when it comes to this, Newton is definitely one of the leaders. At that time, Hooke was the first to qualitatively describe the law of universal gravitation, and at the same time proposed the prototype of the wave theory of light. Newton used his position to remove descriptions of Hooke's research in all his writings, erased Hooke's exploits in the history of science, destroyed Hooke's only portrait of the Royal Society, and attempted to burn a large number of Hooke's manuscripts and articles—fortunately stopped. It wasn't until March 2006, when Hooke himself accidentally appeared in a 520-page, 300+-year-old manuscript that the world learned the truth.

The other big guy who fought with Newton was Leibniz. The focus of the two men's tearing is the invention rights of calculus. In early 1699, members of the Royal Society (of which Newton was a member) accused Leibniz of plagiarizing Newton's calculus, which led to a fierce calculus controversy between Newton and Leibniz. Eventually the Royal Society declared Newton the true inventor of calculus and rebuked Leibniz for plagiarism. But it was later discovered that leibniz's epilogue to the survey's commentary was written by Newton himself. The British had a cult of personality for Newton at the time, so although Leibniz's calculus symbols were simpler, the British continued to use cumbersome symbols invented by Newton until 1820.

Zheng Xuan and Newton are two extreme opposite cases. It is a pity that Newton is not generous enough, and it is also a pity that Zheng Xuan studied the technique of slaying dragons and the sutra of Taixuan. If Newton's research content and Zheng Xuan's academic attitude can be combined into one, wouldn't it be a beautiful thing in the world?
