On 2 August, Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) indicted former Legislator Au Nok Hin and singer Wong Yiu-ming, accusing them of alleged fraud in the 2018 Hong Kong Island by-election and inducing others to vote for Au by providing entertainment to others. According to the ICAC, since the end of February 2018, Au has posted a number of posts on social platform pages announcing that he will hold a two-hour rally at Edinburgh Square in Central on the evening of 3 March 2018. During the rally, Wong yiu-ming sang two songs on stage, and at the end of the performance, he called on those present at the rally to vote for Au Nok-hwan in the election.

The Legislative Council of the HKSAR held a by-election on 11 March 2018, in which Au was one of the four candidates.

After receiving relevant complaints, the ICAC launched an investigation into the suspected contravention of the Elections (Fraud and Unlawful Conduct) Ordinance and, after seeking advice from the Department of Justice, decided to prosecute Au Nok-hin, 34, and Wong Yiu-ming, 59, and will respond at the Eastern Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
