Mr. Nan Huaijin: The four major obstacles that make people unable to rest and fear all the time

Yang Zhuyue: "The people who are not allowed to rest are four accidents: one is shou, two is the name, three is the position, and four is the goods." There are these four, fear of ghosts, fear of people, fear of might, fear of punishment: this is called the recluse of man. You can kill or live, and you can control your life. If you don't rebel against your fate, why envy your life? Not noble, what is the envy? Don't be powerful, why envy the position? Not greedy for riches, why envy goods? This is called shunmin also. There is no right in the world, and the system is included. As the saying goes: 'A man does not marry a eunuch, and his lust is lost; he does not have food or clothing, and the king and his subjects rest in peace.' ’”

Yang Zhu said that there are four things in life that make us unable to rest, which four things? "One is life, two is the name, three is the position, and four is the goods", these are the four major obstacles in life.

The first people wanted to live a long life, and the truly orthodox Taoists opposed people's pursuit of longevity, and later the Taoists derived a school of immortals, hoping to cultivate this life to immortality. This belongs to the Dan Dao Sect, cultivating the Dan Fa, doing a kind of work, cultivating people's existing lives in various ways, with the goal of being able to live a long time. Orthodox Taoists, Lao Zhuang, Liezi, and so on, do not advocate prolonging your life, but they are not opposed to you living a long life and listening to nature. But human beings do not understand this truth, in order to live a long time, it is very hard. The Buddhists also do not advocate prolonging life, so the Diamond Sutra also opposes the life-bearing phase, because people can't do it. The second obstacle is that people live for a false name, so the special analysis name of "Yang Zhu" is false, don't be deceived by it. The third life is for status, the fourth is for money, and this goods represent material enjoyment. These four points are the biggest obstacles in life.

"There are these four, fear of ghosts, fear of people, fear of prestige, fear of punishment: this is called the recluse of people also", he said that if people have these four obstacles, when they live, they are afraid of people, they are afraid of ghosts, they are afraid of authority, and they are afraid of the law. We have a lot of students here, especially those who study Buddhism, and it is very interesting that you compare this passage with the Diamond Sutra, which shows that most of the enlightenment ideas of the two schools are the same, and the way of expression is different. He said that life is ignorant for the sake of longevity, name, position, and goods, so it is afraid of people, afraid of ghosts, afraid of authority, afraid of the law. Ordinary people have four demands, and there are also four kinds of fear, so they have the latter "can kill or live, control the outside", their own living life can not be truly free, so our life is manipulated in the hands of others...

He said below, "Do not rebel against life, He Envy Shou", life should not violate their own life, this life should live as long as possible, you do not want to commit suicide, if you tell us to die tomorrow, you do not linger, nostalgia for this world only pain, so do not rebel against life, reverse is to violate the natural laws of their own life, so there is no mind about the length of life. "Not noble, he envied the name", he said that he did not covet the expensive, and he did not mind being famous and nameless. "Don't be powerful, he envied", we don't want power, don't take it seriously, so we don't envy whether there is status in life. "Don't be greedy for riches, don't envy goods", do not want to get rich, so there is no envy for materials and banknotes. If you can do these four things without coveting, "this is called shunmin", this is the life that truly conforms to nature.

"There is no right in the world, and the control of life is within", life can be like this, there is no confrontation under the world, it is independent and unswerving, standing on top of the heavens and the earth between heaven and earth, and its own life itself has done the Lord, not relying on others, this is called true liberalism. This is different from Western liberal thought, and can also be said to be more thorough and respectful of one's own life than Western liberal thought.
