Why did the Mongolian people worship Genghis Khan but hate Kublai Khan? The Battle of the Khans!

Kublai Khan

In the history of the Mongol Empire, Kublai Khan's position was very important.

During his tenure as Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, he conquered the East and the West, destroyed the Southern Song Dynasty, and completed the unification of the whole country. In addition, he reused talent, revived the administration that healed the wounds of a century of war, reformed the currency system, introduced banknotes into circulation, and made it the basis of finances. The state grain control policy, which was abolished after Wang Anshi, was restored, and in good years, the state purchased surplus grain and stored it in the state warehouse. When the price of grain rises in the barren years, the grain is distributed free of charge by opening a warehouse. He also organized public relief, regularly distributing rice and corn to families in dire need. A decree of 1260 required magistrates to provide relief to old scholars, orphans, and the sick and weak.

Kublai Khan's exploits may be worse than Genghis Khan's, but they are still very meritorious compared to other Great Khans. So why do people in Mongolia hate him today?

Ali is not a brother

The main reason is related to the dispute over the Khan's position.

Kublai Khan's father was Torei and his grandfather was Genghis Khan Temujin. Kublai Khan is the second oldest, the eldest brother is Möngke, the third is Hulagu, and the fourth is Ali Bu brother. It should be said that Tuolei's four sons are very cattle.

After the death of Genghis Khan, the Khan's throne was inherited by Wokoutai. However, Wokoutai's qualifications were average, and he did not arrange the aftermath well, originally wanting to give the Khan position to Sun Zi's lost door, but there was nothing left on paper. Wokoutai's wife is not a thief and wants to give the Khan position to the eldest son Guiyu. Guiyu simply did not have the ability to be the king of the Khan and make a mess of the country's governance. After Guiyu's death, the Wokoutai family became a pot of porridge, so the Golden Family recommended that Meng Ge inherit the Khan's throne, and the Khan's position was transferred to the Tuolei system.

Unfortunately, Möngke had a short life and died in 1259 under the Diaoyu Mountains in the east of Hechuan. In this way, Mongolia has once again launched a struggle for the khan's throne! At that time, the most likely to become the new Khan were Kublai Khan and Ali Bu brothers. As a result, the brothers fought, and in the end, Ali was defeated, and Kublai Khan inherited the Khan's throne!

Hulagu

Kublai Khan was able to inherit the Throne of the Mongol Empire and was inseparable from his brother Hulagu.

When the elder Möngke was the Great Khan, he let Hulagu lead the main army to the west, taking a lot of Western Asian territory, including Iraq and Iran, and thus establishing the Ilkhanate, which was very powerful.

When Kublai Khan and Ali Bu Brother were vying for the Khan's throne, Hulagu's attitude was crucial. At that time, Kublai Khan was in charge of the southern part of the desert, which is a large area of present-day China, while Ali Buge was in charge of the northern part of the desert, which is the area of present-day Mongolia. Because the Ilkhanate was close to kublai khan's domain, it chose to support Kublai Khan, which allowed Kublai Khan to defeat Ali Bu brother. Kublai Khan eventually imprisoned Ali Buge and later poisoned him to death.

The people of Mongolia hated Kublai Khan for the following reasons.

1. Kublai Khan led to the division of the Mongol Empire. In Mongolia, there is a custom of old sons keeping their jobs, so Ali Bu Brother is in the mobei camp to keep his job, while Möngke, Kublai Khan, and Hulagu are out on expeditions. When Möngke died, Ali Buge, as was customary, immediately informed the descendants of Genghis Khan in various parts of Eurasia that they would come to the Kuriletai Assembly to elect a new Khan.

After Genghis Khan's death, he was also the regent of his old son Tuolei, and later elected a new khanate heir through the Kuriletai Assembly. Therefore, Ali's practice is very much in line with the old Mongolian habits. At this congress of Kuriletai, the Golden Horde, the Chagatai Khanate, and the Wokoutai Khanate all sent personnel to participate, and Ali Buyu and Lin sat on the Khanship of the Mongol Empire. However, with the support of Han Chen, Kublai Khan also ascended the throne as the Great Khan of the Mongol Empire.

In the end, Kublai Khan defeated Ali Buge and became the Great Khan of the Mongols, which made the Golden Horde, Chagatai Khanate, and Wokoutai Khanate very dissatisfied, which led to the division of the Mongol Empire.

The Mobei camp where Ali Bu Brother was located is now the old land of Mongolia, so many Mongolian subjects believe that Kublai Khan was an outlier, a separatist. If it weren't for him, the Mongol Empire wouldn't have split, and the glory would have continued, so I hated him!

2. Sinicization. Kublai Khan mainly lived in the south of the country, which is the generation of today's China, so he liked Han culture very much. Abrigo, on the other hand, was able to gain so much support because he was strongly opposed to Sinicization and said he wanted to kill all the Han Chinese, plant grass in the fields of the Central Plains, and graze cattle, sheep and horses. As a nomadic people, the Mongol people preferred the idea of Ali Buge, but Ali Bugo was poisoned by Kublai Khan and hated him very much.

3. National beliefs. After Kublai Khan began to implement the policy of Sinicization, Mongolia was completely divided, some were Islamized, some became Christians, and they could not form a joint force. Therefore, many Mongolian people complain that today's life is very bad, it is Kublai Khan's work, if Ali does not succeed to the throne, the Mongol Empire will continue its former glory!
