"Wine Saint" Mei Yiqi

From 1931 to 1948, Mei Yiqi was the president of Tsinghua University. Mei expressed her love and deep friendship with Tsinghua with the heart of "Born si changsi, I love my lu". He proposed that "the so-called university is either a building or a master." He stressed that university education "is to study academics; the second is to cultivate talents."

Mei Yiqi did not like to talk by nature, and was called a "taciturn gentleman" by his disciples. His long figure is often matched with a green cloth robe, his face is angular and personable, and he can be said to be a handsome man of that era. Regarding drinking, Mei Yiqi has always been famous in the academic circles for loving to drink, being able to drink but not making a fuss, and whenever others toast in the wine yard, they always come and do not refuse, and they drink it all with great pride and happiness, thus falling into the reputation of "very good wine style" and "wine saint". At that time, mei's alcohol consumption among the teachers, students and employees of Tsinghua University could be called the first. He can do 20 glasses of high liquor in a row, and he can also return home to talk about affairs with visitors, which shows that it is indeed a huge amount. After Mei Yiqi arrived in Taiwan, an assistant named Sun Guanghan wrote in a reminiscence article: "Everyone knows that Mr. Mei's most beloved time is when he eats wine, and in many gatherings, I have never seen him refuse any toastman's kindness. ”

Mei Yiqi's stroke in her later years is estimated to be related to excessive alcohol consumption.
