Since entering China in 2002, Hyundai Motor Group has continued to expand its business in China.

Previously, in 2013, Hyundai Motor Group established and operated the China Institute of Technology (HMTC), the group's largest overseas research center, in Yantai, Shandong Province. In 2021, Hyundai Motor Group established the China Forward-Looking Digital Research Institute in Shanghai, which is also Hyundai Motor Group's first overseas forward-looking technology R&D center, focusing on autonomous driving, intelligent cockpit, shared mobility, connected technology and electrification.

After more than 10 years of development, Hyundai Motor Group has built a three-point R&D center in Shanghai, Yantai and Chengdu to realize a comprehensive R&D layout of forward-looking technology R&D, vehicle R&D and commercial vehicle R&D, thereby accelerating the construction of a localized R&D system.

Since entering China in 2002, Hyundai Motor Group has continued to increase investment in China and established 65 legal entities.

According to the plan, Hyundai Motor China's forward-looking technology R&D center plans to open a UX Studio in Jing'an Temple in Shanghai in 2025, which will become a brand touchpoint between Hyundai Motor and Chinese users. In terms of intelligent driving, the company will focus on forward-looking research and mass production development at each stage of L2-L4. In addition, RoboTaxi has now obtained a demonstration operation license from Shanghai and will carry out demonstration operations.

By 2027, we will build a complete lineup of pure electric products dedicated to China

It is understood that Hyundai Motor is collaborating with Hyundai Motor Nanyang Research Institute in Korea and Hyundai Motor Technology and R&D Center in China to develop localized electric models for Chinese consumers, and plans to gradually launch them from next year and build a complete lineup of pure electric products dedicated to China by 2027.
