The mystery of the suicide of China's "drama emperor" Shi Hua: once on a par with Zhao Dan, he was betrayed by a friend before his death

author:Sasu

Did the "Drama Emperor" Shi Hua really commit suicide?

Hu Quan, an excellent old criminal police officer in Shanghai who wrote the nickname "Hulmos", came into contact with a little information about Shi Hua's death. Gai Huquan is good at judging and investigating floating corpses in the water, and many of the cases detected occur in the Huangpu River area of the Yangtze River estuary, and Shi Hua is said to have died here.

Although this case has nothing to do with "Hulmos", the death of this famous film actor still has a long-term mystery, which can be proved here, that is, is Shi Hui really committing suicide?

The mystery of the suicide of China's "drama emperor" Shi Hua: once on a par with Zhao Dan, he was betrayed by a friend before his death

"Drama Emperor" Shi Hua is one of the most prestigious drama film amphibian actors in China in the 1940s and 1950s, when people usually listed him and Zhao Dan as the two major male gods in the Chinese film industry, if you use today's concept, people fan Zhao Dan more important to his clear appearance, and Mi Shi Wav, it must be because of his excellent acting skills.

People may forget Shi Hua's name, but they will not forget the classic masterpieces such as "My Life" in the history of Chinese cinema, and the old policeman who resisted and eventually died of hunger and cold.

To use an inappropriate analogy, if Zhao Dan was the Hu Ge of that era, Shi Hui was Ge You on the stage at that time, but his fame was higher, he had a deep artistic attainment, and he was both an actor and a director. Even if there is social change, it has not cut off his artistic achievements, whether it is "Sunrise" and "False Phoenix" before the founding of the People's Republic of China, or "Song Jingshi", "Tianxian Match" and "Chicken Feather Letter" after the founding of the People's Republic of China, Shi Hui has left a textbook stage image for the world.

Due to social reasons at the time, Shi Hua was designated as a rightist in June 1957; on November 19, after being criticized for the second time, Shi Hua took the "Democracy No. 3" to sea, and his whereabouts are unknown thereafter. At that time, his disappearance had sparked all kinds of speculation, and even issued an internal reference, "The Rightist Shi Waving Does Not Know where to Go", and there are various statements about his renunciation and even treason.

Later, a highly corrupt floating corpse was found outside Wu Song's mouth, which was identified by the public security as Shi Hua, but it was classified as a "suicide death". After Shi Hua was rehabilitated in 1979, his remains were transported back to his hometown in Tianjin in 2004 and buried in xicheng dormitory.

However, with the release of the new edition of "Shi Hua Talk Art Record" in 2017, the cause and time of Shi Hua's death have once again attracted attention. Perhaps not wanting a generation of talented people to suffer this tragic end, Mr. Li Zhen, editor-in-chief of "Shi Hua on Art", and the research center of China Film Art, wrote "Did Shi Hua really commit suicide?" ", believes that his death is still full of doubts.

▲ The new edition of "Shi Hua Talk Art Record" was published by a publishing house called "Houlang", and at this time, it was at least three years before the famous "B Station Houlang" was born

Mr. Li Zhen questioned several pieces of evidence that usually believe that Shi Hui committed suicide -

Recently, due to the release of a new edition of "Shi Hua's Art Record", some readers have put forward different opinions on Shi Hua's death year. The following is my opinion for discussion. The general theory is that Shi Hua committed suicide by jumping into the sea in November 1957. This statement is based on:

1. In November 1957 (the first draft of the timeline of the Shanghai Film Studio in 1991 is said to be October 17), during the anti-rightist movement at the Shanghai Film Studio, Shi Hui was shocked and disappeared after the second criticism meeting against him.

2. On the day of Shi Hui's disappearance, on the passenger ship from Shanghai to Ningbo, a crew member (Yu Zhi, the author of Shi Hui's biographical novel, said that he was a cleaner in the fifth class, Shen Huan said that it was a third-class tea room, Ai Yi said that he was a crew member, and later said that he was the captain, and said that he was the first mate) saw Shi Hui, and the two of them said hello.

▲ The "Democracy No. 3" ship chosen by Shi Hua is very meaningful to him, and his last film "Night Flight of the Sea of Fog" was based on its story

3. Before shi hua disappeared, he had unusually kissed his wife.

4. In the spring of 1958 (china film times said that it was a year and seven months later, that is, in the spring of 1959; Xie Jin recalled that it was a year and a half later), "Shi Hua's body" was found on the seashore in the Erzaohong area of Nanhui County.

Only from these points to conclude that Shi Hua committed suicide, it is obvious that the evidence is insufficient.

First, just because someone committed suicide during the anti-rightist era, we should not conclude that Shi Hui also committed suicide.

Second, Shi waved on the boat to Ningbo, was it a jump into the sea?

The third point is that Shi Hui's act of kissing his wife was recalled by Ms. Tong Baoling afterwards, because Shi Hui disappeared and was judged to commit suicide before, and his expression inevitably had subjective emotional overtones, not to mention, even if he kissed his wife unusually, it could not prove that he was going to commit suicide.

Fourth, it is impossible to prove when the body of the suspected Shi Hua was found, it is possible to jump into the sea or fall into the sea when returning to Shanghai from Ningbo, or jump into the sea near Shanghai after returning to Shanghai from land, the time of suicide is not necessarily the same, November 1957 is not far from 1958.

Moreover, when the body was found, it was completely unrecognizable, and it was quickly buried on the spot, it is said that it was judged by the teeth to be a stone wave, and before I saw the file, I was deeply suspicious of this, why did I find a body with a different face so quickly located to be a stone wave? There was no computer at the time, so it was so quick to compare with the X-ray of the hospital?

There are many ways in which people judge the identity of the corpse, li wei, Cai Ying, and Shu Xiaoming mention that the judgment is based on "a scar on the denture and leg bone"; Shen Silence says that it is "a gold tooth and a scar on the leg"; Shi Yushu says that it is "a repaired tooth, and a parkcard gold pen and a watch"; Ai Yi's article mentions "a molar"; and so on. There was a possibility that a result of Shi Hua's disappearance needed to be found, so it was "decided" that this was Shi Hua.

After Shi Hui disappeared, various theories appeared, among which some people said that Shi Hui fled abroad, and some people said that he fled to Hong Kong, all of which belonged to the crime of "treason.", and if it was convicted of treason, there would be too many people. I saw some information and could feel that some people at that time strongly supported suicide in order to prove that Shi Hua was not "treasonous".

Perhaps because of the reason for compiling the "Shi Hua Talk Art Record", Mr. Li Zhen's pen can see a rigor, but also can see an expectation - the expectation of Shi Huasheng. Based on this, he proposed that Shi Hua's death year should be written "? ", i.e., "Shi Hua (1915—?) )”

▲ In 1943, Shi Hui played Brad in the drama "Gone with the Wind"

It was when I read this article that I decided to write about what happened after Shi Hua's death, and at the same time lamented that Mr. Li Zhen's idea was wishful thinking after all - in fact, I didn't want Shi Hua to live first. If he had earlier contact with the public security personnel related to Mr. Shi's death, perhaps the truth would have been revealed long ago. In fact, the later accounts of Mr. Shi's identification after his death are also very similar to those of public security personnel, but they are fragmented and incomplete.

When writing the documentary of Hu Quan's investigation, I consulted the notes of a reporter surnamed Wu, who was probably also preparing to write "Hulmos", so I examined many local cases, including the remains of Mr. Shi Hua.

According to his account, the discovery of the body of Mr. Shi Hua is believed to be seventeen months after his disappearance, the discovery is very desolate, usually inaccessible, it was fishermen who accidentally passed by here and found that there were remains on the beach before they came close to see, when the remains were already half buried in the sand. So, it is very likely that he was washed up on the coast earlier, but was never discovered.

It is for this reason that the skeleton was found with a relatively complete skeleton, ligaments still connected, and clothing. Therefore, it is speculated that the corpse floated ashore in the third phase (giant view) state, and the subsequent decay may mostly be carried out on the shore. If he had been washed up on the shore at a later date, it is likely that the bones would not have been so complete due to the weight of the skull and the fragility of the cervical vertebrae.

At that time, the fishermen greedily found a gold pen in the pocket of his suit (which coincided with Shi Yushu's description), which was later noticed by public security personnel and found to be Shi Hui's relic. Because his "disappearance" was always under investigation, the matter immediately attracted the attention of his superiors, and the fishermen had to take the police to the place where they buried the body. The police dug up Shi Hua's remains from a reed bush, and there was no DNA recognition technology at the time, and the remains were only bones, making it difficult to determine the identity. Finally, his identity was determined by the dentures of his lower jaw (in keeping with the silence). Shi Hua's suicide thus concluded.

However, from the perspective of evidence, I know that this description is not enough, and it does not answer Mr. Li Zhen's questions, such as whether there will be any problems with the origin of the gold pen, and whether the identification of the bones is too hasty and rushed. Interestingly, with the frequent occurrence of sports in those years, the "relevant departments" had the same doubts as Mr. Li Zhen about whether Shi Hua really committed suicide, and as a result, a few years later, a more rigorous identification of Shi Hua's remains was conducted again.

Due to the long time, it is difficult to find the staff who participated in this appraisal, but fortunately, some participants recorded the appraisal, and this person is Professor Wuhan, a well-known authority on criminal investigation in China and a former Asian adviser to the United Nations Criminal Justice Service.

▲ Wuhan, born in 1921 in Shantou, Guangdong Province, has been the director of the Criminal Investigation Teaching and Research Department of East China University of Political Science and Law since 1979, and has written "Criminal Investigation" and "Criminology"

In 1993, Professor Wuhan, in his thesis "On the Information System of Criminal Offenses" (which can be found in the national dissertation database), used the identification of Shi Hua's body as an example to describe the role of human body information in criminal investigation, and the full text is now copied as follows:

"At the beginning of the liberation, the famous actor Shi Hua committed suicide by throwing himself into the Pudong sea during the political movement, and was buried on the spot after his death. A few years later, some people raised many doubts about whether the deceased was a stone swing, and the bones were exhumed and technically identified. Because Shi Hui had a gunshot wound accident during the filming of the movie, the leg bone was shot, the jaw gum bed had been operated on, there were X-ray negatives for comparison, and there were indeed bullet wound marks on the legs of the corpse bones after examination, and the gum surgery site was completely consistent with the X-ray negatives, thus confirming that the deceased was indeed Shi Hua. ”

▲ The identification of the bones by dental X-ray is the world's more common authoritative identification method, and Hitler's remains were confirmed by this method

Although there are only a few hundred words, the identification of Shi Hua's remains should be certain. (In that era, even suicide did not bring sympathy, and time passed, and there was no reason to hide it for him.) We can only say that, unfortunately, Mr. Shi Hua, really did not escape that disaster.

▲ Mr. Shi Waver, is really gone

It is worth mentioning that reading Mr. Li Zhen's article, there is also a strong feeling, that is, the mention of Shi Hua's death has a lot to do with the betrayal and fall of the well by his former close friends. My heart is sad to see those shining names— most of them are very good characters, and we regard them as role models.

Their actions, by today's standards, are despicable, but I don't think they deserve to be flogged. This is because, in all respects, they are not, or should not be, morally corrupt people, but they have done that. And in that era, such a person had a lot of car loads.

It may only be said that if a world makes recognized good people do bad things, it is not a problem for someone, but a problem in this world; in the same way, if a worldly way makes bad people have to do good things, then this world is worthy of our maintenance and cherishing.

Fortunately, looking up, the horizon was already full of sunlight.

May the tragedy of Mr. Shi Hua not be staged again, and may the tragedy of his friends not be staged again.
