On July 30, the distributed photovoltaic project of Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant of Wuhan Three Towns Holding Group of Wuhan Chengtou was connected to the grid for power generation, which is expected to cover 27% of the power demand of the plant.

The Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform and Promoting Chinese-style Modernization, which was deliberated and adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, proposes that it is necessary to improve the institutional system of ecological civilization, coordinate the promotion of carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, actively respond to climate change, and accelerate the improvement of the institutional mechanism for the implementation of the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.

Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant is located in Zhangjiawan Street, Hongshan District, with a service area of 135 square kilometers and a population of more than 800,000 people. With a daily sewage treatment capacity of 400,000 tons, it is a large-scale sewage treatment plant in Wuhan.

On the morning of August 1, a reporter from the Yangtze River Daily visited the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant. Walking into the factory, what catches your eye is two circular secondary sedimentation tanks side by side, and behind the secondary sedimentation tank is a biological tank.

According to the person in charge of the site, the sewage will flow slowly from the water inlet, and then flow out of the water outlet after multiple links such as grid slag removal, grit tank sedimentation, biological reaction tank purification, and advanced treatment. With the help of a series of high-tech equipment, this water can also be reused for agricultural irrigation, urban greening, etc.

Unlike traditional sewage treatment plants, the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant is above a deep blue "ocean". Overlooking the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant from the air, the seven football field-sized fields are embedded with huge photovoltaic power generation areas, and dark blue double-glass photovoltaic panels are closely arranged to cover the sewage treatment pond on the ground. According to the person in charge, these photovoltaic panels can generate nearly 20,000 kWh of electricity per day on average. For the factory, the electricity used during the day is produced by the factory.

In 2021, the total electricity consumption of the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant was about 27.138 million kWh, with an average of 73,000 kWh per day.

Carbon reduction starts with reducing electricity consumption.

After several communications with CK Design Group, the plant decided to implement a photovoltaic power generation project around green technology innovation, that is, to maximize power generation in a limited space.

After construction, more than 10,000 double-glass modules have been installed in the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant, with a total construction scale of 7.18 MW. Based on the calculation that it can provide about 7.239 million kWh of clean electricity per year, the plant can save 2,606 tons of standard coal, reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by about 22 tons, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 6,700 tons a year.

Reduce pollution and pay close attention to the quality of tail water effluent.

After adopting the process of "multi-stage AAO biological pool + secondary sedimentation tank + ultrafiltration membrane tank + disinfection", the main indicators of the effluent effluent of the third phase of Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant are better than the first-class A standard in the "Pollutant Discharge Standard for Urban Sewage Treatment Plants", and some indicators reach the four categories of surface water, which can achieve the effect of "discharging water quality to raise fish". In addition to watering flowers and raising fish, the tail water can also flow to the Qingling River as ecological replenishment, benefiting more than 800,000 residents in the surrounding area.

Zhang Yan, secretary of the party branch of the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant, said that the plant has implemented the third phase of the expansion project, and the sewage treatment capacity has been increased from the original 200,000 tons per day to 400,000 tons per day. With the development of the city and the growth of the population, the Huangjiahu Sewage Treatment Plant will continue to expand for the fourth phase.
