Robert Duval was born in San Diego, California, the son of a naval officer. Duval majored in drama at Princepia College, and after graduating in 1953, he fought in the war and retired to the United States two years later. Upon his return, Duval received rigorous training at New York's drama school and performed stage plays at neighbor theaters. There, he shared an apartment with Dustin Hoffman. During this time, he participated in a Horton Ford film called Night Terror, and was favored by Ford, who recommended him to appear in the famous 1962 film "To Kill a Mockingbird".
Duval's performance on the New York stage slowly earned himself attention and made his mark on television, playing his adopted son in The Godfather in 1972, a turning point in his career that earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Since then, Duval has starred in a number of films as the role of the Godfather, including The Godfather 2, Killer Elite, AND TV Storm. In these five or six films, most of his roles are supporting roles, occasionally appearing as the main character.
In 1979, Duvall's performance in Apocalypse Now established him as a powerful actor and was nominated for Best Actor. In the same year, he was nominated for the film "Colonel Thunderbolt", and in 1982, he won the film emperor with "Gentle Mercy", and finally completed the transition from a supporting role to a protagonist.
But it was then that his career hit a low ebb and did not appear in 1990's Godfather 3. During the low tide of the film, Duval turned to small screen development and also achieved good results. He was nominated for three Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe.
In 1997, Duval returned to the mountains and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor for his independently produced film "Missionary". What's more, the film pulled Duval back to the ranks of A-list movie stars and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for Forbidden Truth.
Robert Duval left his footprints on the Walk of Fame at the Ruman Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, adding to the trail of fame that is adorned with fame. Robert Duvall fell to his knees and couldn't hide his excitement, and his wife and friends Billy Bob Thornton, Andy Garcia and James Kane all came to support Robert, which was a recognition of his nearly half-century of film art practice.
