On the evening of August 1, 2021, China's men's 100-meter sprinter Su Bingtian made history with his excellent results of 9.83 seconds (breaking the Asian record) and 9.98 seconds in the final (the first Chinese athlete to reach the Olympic men's 100-meter final), breaking the racial prejudice about the 100-meter race. As a "veteran" of the three-world Olympic Games, Su Bingtian is also an associate professor at the School of Physical Education of Jinan University, during the preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, on the basis of summarizing his many years of training and competition experience, he and the research team combed and analyzed the historical process and important experience of China's men's 100 m sprint in the forefront of the world in the past 10 years, especially since the new era, and then put forward the basic ideas and countermeasures for future development.

Su Bingtian and others concluded that there are six main reasons why China's men's 100 m sprint ranks among the world's first-class: practicing the concept of scientific training, creating a benign team competition model, implementing the "relay to promote individual" strategy, implementing the "going out, please come in" policy, forming a perfect training guarantee system, and focusing on improving the quality of athletes. The enlightenment brought by this is that: on the one hand, the development of competitive sports in China in the new era requires competitive sports self-confidence; on the other hand, the help of science and technology, the strategy of "team projects driving individual projects" and inheritance and innovation are the main experiences that competitive sports can learn from. Facing the future, China's men's 100 m sprint should promote high-quality development from four aspects: (1) adhere to the existing successful experience with a reform and innovation attitude; (2) pay attention to the selection and training of young athletes; (3) provide a platform for "older" athletes to create excellent results; (4) strengthen the protection of retired athletes.

New Era Chinese Men's 100m Sprint:

Review and Outlook

▍ Preface

On the road of building a community with a shared future for mankind, in the journey of realizing the "two hundred years" goal, sports naturally exude its unique charm, especially in the New Era of the People's Republic of China, we draw closer to the people of the world through sports diplomacy, spread the concept of peaceful development, and highlight our responsible style as a big country; We enhance the people's physique through sports, improve the physical fitness and quality of life of the whole nation, and constantly meet the people's yearning for a better life. Among them, competitive sports have an important leading role in the development of sports.

In the past 10 years, especially since China's economic and social development entered a new era, under the great attention and strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, China's sports are moving from a big sports country to a sports power. An important manifestation of a sports power is the high-quality development of competitive sports, to achieve the world people's attention to high, high participation in competitive sports achievement breakthroughs, such as athletics, football, etc., that is, we often say that "the gold content of the gold medal should be high" and "the recognition of the results should be strong". Athletics is known as the "mother of sports", its importance is self-evident, has a high degree of attention in the world, of which the 100 m sprint is the most attention-paying and influential sport in the history of the competition.

With the joint efforts of generations of sports people, China's 100 m sprint has made great achievements, especially since the new era, there have been many high-level athletes such as Su Bingtian and Xie Zhenye, and the 100 m single event and 4×100 m relay results have ranked among the forefront of the world, fully embodying the "Chinese speed". The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games is approaching, the sports system has entered a critical period of preparation, under such an important node, combing, summarizing, summarizing and looking forward to the development of China's men's 100 m sprint since the founding of New China has important practical significance.

Based on the above, on the basis of summarizing his years of training and competition experience, with the support and help of the research team, the author uses research methods such as literature research, interviews and case studies to analyze the successful experience and future development measures of the Chinese men's 100 m sprint, and puts forward the enlightenment for China's competitive sports.

▍Review of the development of China's men's 100 m sprint since 2010

Since Liu Changchun represented China in the men's 100 m sprint event of the Olympic Games in June 1932, China's 100 m athletes began to integrate into the world 100 m field, and the development process of the past 100 years has gone through ups and downs. In the past 10 years, especially since the new era, the Chinese men's 100 m sprint has opened a new journey through a number of initiatives.

In 2010, Lao Yi won the men's 100 m sprint championship at the Guangzhou Asian Games with a score of 10.24 s, which was the first gold medal in the men's 100 m sprint won by China at the Asian Games, which is of historic significance; In 2011, Su Bingtian broke the national record with a score of 10.16 s; In 2013, Zhang Peimeng broke the national record twice with a score of 10.04 s and 10.00 s. In 2015, Su Bingtian broke the national record with 9.99 s in the IAAF Diamond League eugene in the United States, which was the first time that a local Asian athlete broke through 10 s; After that, Xie Zhenye and Su Bingtian set new national records again with a score of 9.97 s and 9.91 s respectively, and the 9.91 s also set a new record for the men's 100 m sprint of Asian local athletes; At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Su Bingtian won the gold medal in the men's 100 m sprint at the Asian Games with a score of 9.92 s.

While the men's 100 m sprint single performance improved rapidly, the Chinese men's 4×100 m relay event also made a huge breakthrough, and at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, the Chinese team broke the Asian record with a score of 37.99 s and won the championship; In 2015, at the Beijing Athletics World Championships, he won the second place with a score of 38.01 s; At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he finished 4th with a time of 37.90 s; At the 2017 World Championships, he finished 4th with a time of 38.34 s.

Combing the achievements of Chinese men's sprints in recent years, especially the development of China's men's 100 m sprints, it shows the characteristics of typical high-quality development, which are manifested in the continuous improvement of achievements and the high gold value of the best results. Figure 1 shows that from 2010 to 2018, the best performance of the men's 100 m sprint in China increased from 10.21 s to 9.91 s, showing an upward trend in 9 years. At present, the national record of the Chinese men's 100 m sprint is the 9.91 s (Table 1) created by the author in 2018, which is the asian record, ranking fifth in the world's 100 m in 2018, and ranking 36th in the history of the human 100 m sprint, which is the progress of China and even Asia in 100 m. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Su Bingtian won the men's 100m championship with a time of 9.92 s and broke the Asian Games record, with a very high gold content. As a result, China's men's 100 m sprint began to rank among the forefront of the world.

▍ The reason why the Chinese men's 100 m sprint in the new era ranks among the top in the world

Since the new era, the excellent results achieved by the Chinese men's 100 m sprint have subverted the traditional cognition of "physical conditions are not suitable". On the basis of in-depth practice of 100 m sprint, the author puts forward 6 reasons why Chinese men's 100 m sprints rank among the top in the world under the conditions of the new era from the perspective of athletes.

3.1 Practice the concept of scientific training

The so-called scientific training concept refers to the training concept that conforms to the law of special competitive ability development, the law of human physiological function state change and the individual characteristics of athletes. The United States is recognized as the country with the highest degree of scientific training in the world, and the author's current coaches Randy Huntington, Xie Zhenye and Wei Yongli's current coach Rana Reider are all famous coaches from the United States. Randy Huntington and Rana Reider are typical "research coaches", their overall training ideas are: guided by the "champion model", through high-tech instruments and equipment to the athletes' physical fitness, technology, recovery and other aspects of the all-round monitoring, according to which to find problems, look for gaps, develop personalized training programs, and then make up for shortcomings, comprehensively improve the athlete's competitive ability.

Taking the author himself as an example, at the beginning of the cooperation with Coach Randy in November 2017, the first thing Coach Randy did was to refer to the "champion model" to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis and analysis of the author's physical fitness and technical condition. Then, in view of the author's physical fitness (insufficient strength of the femoral muscle group and ankle joint strength, slow active grounding speed and force rate) and technology (unreasonable starting posture, small length of the first 7 steps, unreasonable ground picking technique, poor breathing and speed rhythm throughout the process), a targeted training program was formulated. After more than a year of targeted training, the author has made significant progress in the above technical parameters and physical fitness, which is the key to the author's breakthrough (Table 1). During the daily training process, Randy coaches will determine the athlete's speed, endurance, explosiveness, strength, coordination and technical training load measurement on the day based on the results of the pre-training Omegawave evaluation and the athlete's subjective feeling survey results to ensure that the athletes get the best training benefits without injury and overtraining. During the special quality training process, Randy will also conduct comprehensive monitoring through a variety of scientific research instruments and equipment (Figure 2) to ensure that the training load measurement and exercise technology are optimized.

3.2 Create a benign team competition model

In recent years, many scientific and effective measures have greatly promoted the development of The Chinese men's 100 m sprint, and in the same period, high-level athletes such as Su Bingtian, Zhang Peimeng, Xie Zhenye, and Mo Youxue have emerged. According to the actual situation of men's sprinting, the Athletics Sports Management Center adopts the management mode of "good competition in large teams" to fully stimulate the training vitality of athletes and improve the training level. For example, in the men's 100 m sprint, a large number of outstanding athletes with similar results have greatly stimulated the subjective and inherent requirements of individual athletes to improve their athletic performance, and athletes have continuously improved the quality of training in the state of actively breaking the "balance of achievements", and have tested the training results through domestic and foreign competitions and selected athletes to represent the national team.

Why is China's men's 100-meter running among the top in the world? Take a look at Associate Professor Su Bingtian's blockbuster paper

Figure 3 shows that since 2010, the best results of the top 3 men's 100 m sprint in China have shown an improvement trend, and the top 2 results in 2018 are within 10 s. Thanks to the concentrated emergence of a large number of outstanding 100 m sprinters, the benign team competition model has achieved very good results in improving the performance of athletes, which belongs to the structural measures of the development of 100 m sprints.

3.3 Implement the "relay to promote a single item" strategy

In 2010, taking the guangzhou Asian Games as an opportunity, The Chinese sprinter established a sprint national team, the main goal is to promote the 4×100 m relay through the centralized training of the whole team to achieve good results, under such conditions, synchronously promoted the implementation of the "relay to promote single" strategy. After the london 2012 Olympic Games, the Athletics Management Center clarified the "relay to promote individual events" strategy, with the aim of promoting the good results of the 4×100 m relay while driving the improvement of individual sports performance.

Table 2 shows that since the implementation of the "relay to promote individual events" strategy, the annual best result of the Chinese men's relay team has been stable within 39 s, ranking 4th in the world; The individual annual best of the Chinese athletes was stable within 10.25 s, among them, in 2018, Su Bingtian tied the Asian record with a score of 9.91 s in the case of 0.2 m/s downwind, and won the championship with 9.92 s in the men's 100 m final of the Jakarta Asian Games and broke the Asian Games record. The world-class individual 100 m sprint results fully demonstrate the applicability of the "relay to promote individual" strategy.

The reasons for the huge role of the "relay to promote individual events" strategy may be: 1) under the premise of clear objectives, sprinting events (4×100 m relay, 100 m, 200 m) have received attention from all parties, and the support has increased, providing a more solid foundation for the training and development of Chinese male 100 m sprinters; 2) In order to ensure that the 4×100 m relay achieves excellent results, it is generally necessary to equip 4 to 6 athletes to form a relay team, which makes China's sprinters get a high level of training, at the same time, the relay team's high frequency participation in high-level international events makes the athletes get high-quality participation and exercise, the participation experience is greatly improved, and it also brings athletes the opportunity to participate in individual individual events; 3) From the perspective of training methods and methods, relay training is more flexible than a single training method, and athletes can get more experience from it.

3.4 Implement the policy of "going out, please come in"

Since 2010, the Athletics Management Center has implemented the "going out, please come in" policy for sprinting projects to strengthen the exchange and integration of sprinting projects with the world. "Going out" mainly includes training and participation in two aspects, athletics management center actively expands and uses the training resources of athletics powers, sends domestic outstanding athletes to foreign training camps, and improves the level of competition through more advanced training concepts and training methods, for example, the author went to Florida at the end of 2015 for 3 months of winter training, and in February 2016, the 60 m competition of The Staten Island Invitational Tournament in New York city broke through 6.60 s for the ninth time with a score of 6.53 s. He then finished 5th with 6.54 s at the Indoor World Championships at 60 m in March; In terms of going out to participate in the competition, since 2005, the Athletics Management Center has tried its best to send athletes with a certain level who are likely to enter the final of the competition to participate in international competitions in order to exercise psychological quality and accumulate experience in the competition.

"Please come in" mainly includes hiring international outstanding and high-level foreign coaches and their teams to come to China to impart experience and lead team training, and constantly strengthening the study and integration of advanced training concepts and methods. At the same time, we will increase the introduction of scientific research support and training equipment, and promote the improvement of sprint project performance through intellectual capital, advanced training concepts and experience, and the introduction of hardware equipment.

3.5 Establish a sound training support system

High-level competitive sports is not only a competition between the talent of athletes and the level of coaches, but also a competition of training guarantee system. In recent years, the Chinese Athletics Association has gradually improved the sprint training support system, established a composite training team responsible for the head coach, including assistant coaches, scientific research, physicalists, physical therapists, masseurs, psychological counselors, nutritionists, etc., and equipped the composite team with advanced training, scientific research, physiotherapy and rehabilitation instruments and equipment; Secondly, in addition to the training base in Beijing, in order to avoid the impact of seasons and climate change on training and improve the ability of athletes to adapt to foreign competition environments, the Chinese Athletics Association has also established a number of sprint training bases in Nanjing, Shenzhen, Kunming, Bradenton (IMG Academy), Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Phoenix and other places. It meets the needs of athletes to adapt to different climate changes and different competition environments. In addition, the training and competition of athletes during accommodation, transportation, diet, nutrition, rehabilitation, medical treatment and other aspects are managed and coordinated by special personnel, and all costs are borne by the state, which ensures that athletes can concentrate on training. In terms of ensuring that athletes go abroad to participate in the competition, in addition to the regular allocation, it also provides protection for athletes by temporarily hiring rehabilitation engineers according to the actual needs of athletes.

3.6 Pay attention to improving the quality of athletes

Sprint training is a complex system engineering, and the improvement of sports performance depends not only on the strategy of the Athletics Association, the talent of athletes, the level of coaches, the guarantee system of training, but also depends to a large extent on the quality of athletes themselves.

1. Cultural literacy. In recent years, through the joint construction of sports teams and universities, athletes have been given the opportunity to enter colleges and universities. Although the systematic nature of learning has been affected by reasons such as training and competition, the cultural literacy of Chinese sprinters in the new era has been greatly improved compared with the sprinters of the past. In addition, the Manpower Center of the State General Administration of Sport holds several English training courses for athletes every year, and athletes such as the author, Xie Zhenye, wei Yongli and other athletes have participated in the training for many years. The improvement of the basic cultural level helps to accelerate and deepen the athletes' understanding of training, knowing it and knowing why it is so, and the training effect is multiplied with half the effort. The improvement of foreign language proficiency not only helps to promote the exchange between Chinese athletes and foreign coaches and athletes, learn advanced training concepts and methods abroad, but more importantly, enhance athletes' self-confidence and ability to adapt to foreign high-level competition environments, which in turn helps to achieve excellent results. Taking Su Bingtian as an example, the optimization and adjustment of "ankle down pressure" and "arm swing arm technique" are gradually formed by continuous learning and summarizing in training competitions.

2. Professionalism. In recent years, the Chinese Athletics Association has strengthened the cultivation of athletes' professional qualities, first, it regularly organizes athletes to conduct ideological and political education and patriotic education every year, so that athletes can clearly understand their responsibilities and missions, so as to establish lofty goals, and goals can drive action; The second is to teach athletes by example through foreign teachers, cultivate the professional quality of athletes, and let athletes know how to eat reasonably, how to sleep regularly, how to recover effectively, and how to deal with social activities. Good professionalism can ensure the maximum transformation of training effects into athletic performance. Objectively speaking, self-discipline in diet, sleep, recovery, and social activities is another important reason for the author's certain achievements.

▍China men's 100 m sprint future high-quality development measures

4.1 Adhere to the existing successful experience with a reform and innovation attitude

China's men's 100 m sprint in recent years is inseparable from the joint efforts of several generations of athletics, this study summarizes some of the successful experience, with the continuous development of the socio-economic environment, we must adhere to the existing successful experience with a reform and innovative attitude to ensure the high-quality development of China's men's sprint projects. For example, further improve the "relay to promote individual" strategy, in the process of relay team construction continues to introduce young athletes, so that it becomes a rapid growth channel for young athletes.

In the "Go Out, Please Come In", we will continuously improve the cooperation and exchange mechanism of the coaching team, the scientific research team and the management team, and improve the training level and management mode of China's sprint. In addition to high-level coaches, grass-roots coaches and primary and secondary school teachers can also be sent to athletics countries for training, deep learning training plan formulation, technical and tactical design and application, reserve talent selection mechanism, etc., combined with the construction of the Chinese Athletics Coach Academy and other invite-in strategies, and constantly cultivate the international vision, innovative thinking and coaching level of grass-roots coaches, in order to consolidate the foundation of China's sprinting projects.

4.2 Pay attention to the selection and training of young athletes

Teenagers are the basis for the sustained and high-quality development of Sprinting projects in China, and in the current state of certain achievements in Sprinting in China, the number of adolescents participating in sprint training should be expanded through various means, and continuously innovate training methods to improve the success rate, including the following measures: 1) Strive for policy support from the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sports and other relevant departments from the perspective of promoting the physical health of adolescents; 2) Make full use of the demonstration effect of star athletes to attract young people to understand and participate in athletics training, and improve their interest in athletics; 3) Through the close cooperation of ordinary schools, sports schools, clubs, etc., we will build a smooth development channel for the training and further education of young track and field athletes. The reserve of reserve talents for young track and field athletes not only affects the high-quality development of China's athletics projects, but also may provide talent support for the development of other sports in China due to the particularity of athletics.

4.3 Provide a platform for "older" athletes to create excellent results

Through the survey, it was found that some "older" athletes in China have the problem of premature retirement. In recent years, with the changes in the physical conditions of athletes, the scientific training methods, and the improvement of the level of injury rehabilitation, the sports life of Athletes in China has been continuously extended, and the phenomenon of "old age" still creating personal best results has emerged, such as the author still ran 9.91 s world-class results at the age of 29. However, there are a large number of athletes who choose to retire at the age of 26 or so, missing the possibility of further improving their performance, and most of these athletes have been trained by the country for a long time, which is a serious waste of talent in a sense. This needs to attract the attention of athletes and relevant departments, first of all, let the "older" athletes maintain confidence in their sports careers, and believe that excellent results can be achieved through scientific training and protection; Secondly, the relevant departments need to provide incentives and guarantees for "older" athletes, such as providing them with the opportunity to participate in domestic and foreign competitions, in order to stimulate the potential of athletes.

4.4 Strengthen the protection of retired athletes

Retirement is a problem that all athletes have to face, and it is also an important problem that all departments focus on solving, and there are currently different policies to ensure the working life of athletes after retirement. Here, it is necessary to explain a special situation, in addition to the retirement of injuries, track and field athletes are generally in better physical condition than other athletes at the time of retirement, and their athletic ability is still more prominent, which provides a possibility for track and field athletes to carry out cross-sports training after retirement, such as Zhang Peimeng chose the steel frame snowmobile project to continue his sports career after retiring from 100 m sprint.

▍ The enlightenment of the development of Chinese men's 100 m sprint to Chinese competitive sports

5.1 In the new era, the development of competitive sports in China requires self-confidence in competitive sports

As an important part of the construction of a sports power, the breakthrough of its achievements plays an important role in promoting the development of Chinese sports and inspiring the national spirit. In the new era, competitive sports have been given a higher mission, that is, to continuously enhance the self-confidence of competitive sports through the improvement of the performance of high-impact sports such as athletics, football, and basketball, so as to lead the high-quality development of Chinese sports.

Since the new era, the excellent results achieved by the Chinese men's 100m have enabled the Chinese men's 100m sprint to gradually establish the belief of "not afraid of strong hands, taking the initiative to win", which comes from the understanding of continuous transcendence, the breakthrough and innovation of the training mode and the firm will to challenge, interpreting a kind of "challenge, breakthrough, innovation, transcendence" of the new era of Chinese competitive sports self-confidence.

The new era of Chinese competitive sports self-confidence reflects the reform and innovation spirit of Chinese sports, is an important follow-up to the development of China's sports industry, therefore, refining the theoretical basis and social conditions of Chinese men's 100 m sprint self-confidence will help enrich the connotation and deepen and improve the self-confidence of Chinese competitive sports in the new era. Theoretical foundation level: 1) Excellent competitive performance is the foundation for the formation of self-confidence in Chinese competitive sports in the new era. Competitive sports are essentially a competitive relationship, and self-confidence in the process of constantly challenging and winning championships from weak to strong can firmly eliminate the negative mentality in self-knowledge. 2) The mindset of "opening the door to run sports" and the boldness of reform and response are important embodiments of China's self-confidence in competitive sports in the new era. The development experience of China's men's 100 m sprint shows that the synergy and cooperation of athletics management centers, scientific research institutes and enterprises, as well as the addition of high-level foreign coaching teams, are important conditions for a significant improvement in performance, which fully reflects the openness and self-confidence of China's competitive sports.

At the level of social conditions, the reason why the Chinese men's 100 m sprint has continuously made breakthroughs in the new era is because of the Chinese strength formed by the comprehensive development and progress of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is the fundamental basis for the self-confidence generation of Chinese competitive sports in the new era. 1) The economic strength enhanced by China in the past 40 years of reform and opening up has provided a good material foundation for the formation of China's competitive sports self-confidence in the new era. 2) The national system of continuous reform and innovation has provided a strong impetus for the formation of self-confidence in China's competitive sports in the new era. Under the overall deployment of the State General Administration of Sport, based on the development strategy of "big athletics", actively mobilize the forces of all sectors of society to participate in the development of athletics. The author's athletic achievements are inseparable from the support of his work unit Jinan University, the Chinese Athletics Team, the Guangdong Athletics Team and other units. 3) The remarkable achievements of sports reform have enhanced the "sense of gain" of sports talents and provided a firm guarantee for the formation of self-confidence in China's competitive sports in the new era.

The self-confidence of "challenge, breakthrough, innovation and transcendence" in the Chinese men's 100 m sprint is also the specific practice of the "four self-confidences" in competitive sports, and it is also a concrete embodiment of China's new journey of reshaping national self-confidence and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese dream. The development of self-confidence in China's competitive sports in the new era should first enhance the self-confidence in the development of competitive sports with Chinese characteristics, and fully understand that competitive sports with Chinese characteristics in the new era is an important prerequisite for realizing the dream of a sports power; Second, it is necessary to enhance theoretical self-confidence in the development of competitive sports with Chinese characteristics. Under the guidance of the concept of "innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing", construct a theory of people's, national, national and social competitive sports development that embodies Chinese characteristics; Third, it is necessary to enhance the institutional self-confidence of competitive sports with Chinese characteristics. Further reform, innovation and improvement of China's competitive sports development system, and establish a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable sports development strategy; Finally, it is necessary to enhance the cultural self-confidence of competitive sports with Chinese characteristics. Competitive sports culture with Chinese characteristics should become an important support for China's cultural soft power, disseminate Chinese sports stories through the excellent performance of Chinese athletes, and comprehensively enhance the influence of China's competitive sports culture.

5.2 China's men's 100 m sprint is a reference to China's experience in the development of competitive sports

5.2.2 The strategy of "team projects driving individual projects" promotes the improvement of China's competitive sports performance

On the whole, under the same background conditions such as system, environment and race, both teamwork projects and individual sports can learn from the "relay to promote single event" strategy of the Chinese men's 100 m sprint, break the traditional cognition of relying only on individual projects to improve team project performance, and implement the strategy of "team projects driving individual projects". For example, some sports projects similar to the Chinese men's 100 m sprint in team and individual events can fully learn from china's 100-meter development model, focusing on relay events, and driving the improvement of individual individual results while ensuring overall results; For another example, with the technical and tactical innovation of some sports in the world, many techniques and tactics represented by speed technology have begun to be applied in individual projects, thereby considering the individual athletes of the sport to practice team sports techniques and tactics, or to implement the beneficial attempts of team sports athletes to carry out individual projects across disciplines to promote the overall improvement of the performance of each sport. From the perspective of in-depth analysis, the essence of the strategy of "team projects driving individual projects" is to change the inherent understanding of sports selection and training, increase the flow of athletes in sports between different sports of the same kind, and the cross-application of sports technology.
