A year ago, the life of 44-year-old Jiang Jing
Still stuck in a mess.
Persistent overtime, severe insomnia;
The 10-year-old child could not see his parents and ran away from home for a time;
She loves to buy small things, and she has 100 hats alone.
And the cramped small home can not accommodate too many items,
It also made her breathless......
The situation was so serious that she didn't like herself anymore.
The unsettling unknown state after resignation,
On the contrary, it became the only hope in Jiang Jing's heart.
Away from the big factory, away from the city center,
At the age of 44, she ran to the outskirts of Shanghai
Toss out a 96m² "double-sided residence".
8 sliding doors allow the space to be converted as you wish
Weekdays are oversized handmade studios,
On weekends, it also meets the needs of daily life such as a completely private children's room, a game room, and a room for the elderly......
In his new home, Jiang Jing found the life he had always wanted.
He used to work in the game industry and is now a full-time craft creator. From patchwork, embroidery, beading to weaving, he enjoyed the joy of making various handmade materials, and opened a handmade studio, Jngng. I hope that more people can learn about the joy of handicraft.
Designers Wu Zhuang (left) and Fu Shiyu (right) established MOU Construction Engineering in 2019, and building renewal and renovation of old houses have always been one of the priorities of the two designers' work. Design studies cover architectural renewal, interior design, and furniture design.
The studio has always been based on site and materials, seeking to create a more positive relationship between nature, architecture and people. Two post-90s young designers hope to convey the young generation's spirit of exploration of urban life through design practice, find a self-righteous lifestyle, live in the heart, and make the space become a place to connect people's emotions again.
On the façade of the living room, the designer tried to eliminate the space behind the gap in the partition wall, creating a poetic atmosphere through the combination of grille and invisible door.
Jiang Jing and his family have a "second home" at a glance, located in a residential community in the western suburbs of Shanghai. The surrounding area of the community is surrounded by a clear natural water system, and the large floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring the external natural scenery into the interior, which instantly impresses the husband and wife who have lived in the noisy city for a long time.
Under the high-intensity and fast-paced work, the two of them need a space to soothe their minds, get away from the hustle and bustle, and spend a relaxing and comfortable weekend with their children.
At present, there is a very helpless living phenomenon in the city, most people will have rooms that are not often used, such as children who start to study and live in school when they grow up, and the children's rooms are vacant from Monday to Friday; Or the parents' room, guest room, which is only used for a certain period of the year, but has to be preset.
The use of too low frequency triggered the thinking of Wu Zhuang and Fu Shiyu of the MOU Construction Society, is there a new spatial model, abandoning the enclosure of fixed walls, and with the change of function and family population, it can expand or contract more casually and grow freely?
Jiang Jing, who loves handicrafts, one of his great hobbies in travel is to collect interesting handmade items from all over the world. Handmade objects full of aura create unique decorative effects in the space.
In Jiang Jing's new home, the two put the idea of "no idle space" into practice. Two very different ways of using it will coexist in the same home: a weekend home for a family of three, and a handicraft workshop that the hostess has wanted so much.
Jiang Jing, who studied art, has always been a hardcore handicraft enthusiast, and when she was at home on maternity leave, she spent several months making handmade quilts, sweaters, hand-woven scarves and so on for her children. Her own beaded design jewelry is also often ordered out by friends.
The hostess is very eager to have enough space to expand her hobby for many years, so Wu Zhuang and Fu Shiyu removed the two partition walls of the two rooms in the original traditional three-bedroom and two-living room layout, and used 8 moving doors to flexibly separate the space, realizing the smooth switching between different functions.
The designers removed the walls of the second bedroom and the children's room in the original space and replaced them with sliding doors in both vertical and horizontal directions, so that the division of space and functional layout can be adjusted by the owner at any time according to different needs.
In addition to the master bedroom, the partition walls of the two rooms adjacent to the living room have been completely replaced with hidden wooden sliding doors. After tossing and turning, Jiang Jing found that if she put away the tatami mats in the children's room and hide all the sliding doors, the two rooms and the living room would be connected, which would be the large exhibition and studio space she wanted.
When the child comes back on Friday, the partition wall of the children's room can be assembled separately, and the studio can be kept open, and the white wall of the studio or living room is also suitable for the gentleman to spend the weekend to place his game screen and equipment; And when she wants to work without interruptions, Jiang Jing can pull out all the sliding doors, and in addition to the private children's room, the studio also becomes a private space.
In the children's room on the north side, the sliding door is closed, so that children can have their own private space; When the child is in the school accommodation, the door is opened and it becomes part of the mother's spacious studio.
This model can also be derived from the temporary guest room when the elderly or friends come to the family. With all the possibilities to change at will, the home has become a living space that can grow freely.
In the corner of the studio, there is a storage space for the hostess's handmade materials, tools, and recent works. At the same time, it can also be transformed into a hand-made classroom as needed.
With the process of renovation, just when the dream space is becoming a reality step by step, Jiang Jing's inner growth and changes have exceeded her own expectations. During that period, in addition to communicating about the decoration of his new home, Jiang Jing suffered from increasingly serious insomnia in the part that needed to take care of work.
And seeing the child grow up day by day, but he couldn't find time to get along with him, which made Jiang Jing, as a mother, more and more anxious. Children often come home from school and huddle alone in the shadows under the dining table, and even run away from home at the age of seven.
The small home near the company is not large, and there are too many things piled up in the trivial daily life that I don't have time to take care of. Jiang Jing said that she had more than 100 hats alone, and the cluttered space was so overwhelming that she couldn't even accept and like herself at that time.
Finally, in order to be able to get along better with her children and family, and to be able to do what she really wanted to do, she quit her job.
The "second residence" on the outskirts of the city has made Jiang Jing's dream of setting up a handicraft studio, creating his own handicraft brand, and even launching joint listings of various artists become a reality. To this end, she began to conduct detailed market research non-stop, not only inspecting the handmade exhibitions and material exhibitions that she goes to every year in Japan, but also participating in all the handmade markets in Shanghai throughout the year to study and judge the feasibility of the survival mode of various handmade brands.
The biggest touch was a month in Japan, wandering around the streets of Japan every day in all kinds of handmade shops, the most surprising thing for Jiang Jing is that, unlike the young female staff in the office buildings who are busy 9 to 5, the residents in these small shops are usually older ladies with a certain age of dress and elegant conversation, and they are doing what they like calmly, which deeply inspires her heart.
Entering the living room through the entrance, the wall behind the second-hand furniture reserved space for Mr. 's game equipment, and on weekends, it is also a happy battlefield for father and son to meet and "fight".
Now there are five working days a week, the children live in school, the husband lives in a small home next to the original company, and the new home is a solitary space where Jiang Jing can heal himself.
Every day is very idle and relaxed, she doesn't even need to communicate with people all day, just concentrating on the production of handmade works, the teaching of handicraft studios, and the exhibition plan of friends and her own works, Jiang Jing feels full of fulfillment, tranquility and happiness.
Sometimes, like opening a surprise mystery box, she also unexpectedly discovers more benefits from the intimate details that designers have created in their homes.
From the beginning, Jiang Jing said that she wanted an entrance hall as a buffer between the entrance door and the unobstructed living room, and most importantly, she had a lot of shoes to store.
At the same time, the kitchen area located at the entrance door is small, and the refrigerator cannot be found to be placed in a suitable place for a while. Jiang Jing trusted the two designers who had a tacit understanding with her to think of a way, but she didn't expect to get such a beautiful solution in the end.
The kitchen space in the northwest corner is almost completely independent of the rest of the space, and even the most compact L-shaped layout cannot find a place for the refrigerator. In the design, a one-meter gap where the refrigerator can be placed successfully saves the awkward layout of the refrigerator in the dining room in the original house design.
The idea for the new design was based on the assumption that if there was a "gap" between the main door, the kitchen and the living room, the side of the entrance door could be used as a storage hallway, and the other half of the kitchen could accommodate a refrigerator.
If there is none, can such a gap be created out of thin air?
The original 5-meter-wide living room retains a width of 4 meters, and a 1-meter-wide strip of space is divided into two, becoming the entrance hall that hides the practical and large storage function, as well as the refrigerator storage area in the kitchen passage.
The charming wooden grille partition wall added out of thin air successfully completely obscures the entrance door and kitchen door from the view of the living room, and also isolates the trivialities of daily life and the pyrotechnics of wood, rice, oil and salt from the studio atmosphere.
Jiang Jing was also very satisfied with the soft texture of the wall. The wall that matches the large area of wood color in the interior is made of beige plaster with a delicate texture effect, which shows a simple and relaxing natural temperament.
Adhering to the principle of "the fewer types of main materials, the better the inclusiveness of the space", the furniture she chooses is mainly second-hand pieces of wood, with the occasional addition of a little modern metal material and solid fabric decoration in harmonious colors.
The hostess hoped that the home could realize the separation of the bathroom, so the designer borrowed part of the space of the children's room to give the bathroom area as a separate toilet room, realizing the independent use pattern of each other. With the wooden sliding doors closed, the bathroom is also hidden in the house, balancing communality and privacy.
The full range of designs of Japanese designer Akira Minagawa has always been Jiang Jing's favorite for many years, and the fabric curtains, door curtains and even all the bedding at home are all DIY made by herself with the fabric of Akira Minagawa carried back from Japan.
The handmade items that have been found in small handmade shops in Japan and around the world over the years are not only a source of inspiration for Jiang Jing's daily creations, but also a beautiful decoration full of personality in this studio and vacation home.
The designer carved out a cloakroom area at the entrance of the master bedroom, leaving a top-to-ceiling lighting window on the wall separating the cloakroom and the bedroom, and hung curtains made of Akira Minagawa fabric, which the hostess liked, and most of the fabric items in the house were completed by the hostess herself.
Jiang Jing also particularly likes the ceiling treatment in the bedroom. The log ceiling creates a cabin-like enveloping atmosphere, blending in with the surroundings of the resort area and giving the hostess a sense of security even when she is alone.
The north side of the restaurant has been replaced with a whole large piece of glass, and the view is transparent and bright. If you sit by the window, you can also see the scenery of the water town with clear waves swaying in the criss-crossing river downstairs.
On weekends, in the suburbs of the city, where mountains and rivers blend, in a spacious and leisurely large living room, the family quietly enjoys a rare relaxation mood away from the hustle and bustle.
Sitting casually on the wooden floor of the raised children's room and the studio, the ethereal and clear music of the hand disc sounded in the hands of Mr. Jiangjing and the children. The companionship of this moment is not easy to come by, no more words are needed, silence is better than sound.
