Fish balls I believe everyone has heard of the handmade fish balls called fish balls, and the fish balls that do not contain fish only contain fish flavor additives and other ingredients are also called fish balls, they not only have the same name, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish from the taste alone, only the nutrition content list and the ingredient list can truly reflect the essence of food. So, do you usually pay attention to these two tables on food packaging bags? What items do we need to focus on on food labels?

Nutrition facts list

The nutrition facts table indicates the name and amount of calories and nutrients in a food and its percentage of nutrient reference value (NRV%).

For the nutrition facts list on food packaging, the mainland adopts the "1+4" model, and "1" is the calorie; "4" refers to the four core nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrates, sodium), except for partially exempted foods (such as packaged drinking water, ready-to-sell food, beverages with ethanol content >0.5%, alcohol, etc.), all foods must be labeled on the nutrition facts list.

NRV% is a mandatory statement in the General Principles for Nutrition Labelling of Prepackaged Foods, which indicates the percentage of a nutrient contained in 100 grams or 100 millilitres or a serving of food that provides the human body in a day.

Distribution list

In addition to the nutrition facts list, there will also be product ingredient instructions on the food packaging. Among the various ingredients, the "General Principles for the Labeling of Prepackaged Food" requires that the ingredients added in the order of decreasing amount added when manufacturing or processing food be arranged one by one, and the ingredients added with an amount of no more than 2% can be arranged in decreasing order.

• The ingredients for hot and sour kelp knot are: kelp, salt, water, chopped pepper...... At the top of the list are kelp and edible salt, that is, the main ingredient of this food besides kelp is salt.

• The formula on a brand of beverage is: water, sugar, food additives, food flavor, edible salt...... The main ingredients of this product are water and sugar, so you should think twice for those who are losing weight.

What items do we need to focus on on food labels?

• Focus on allergens.

The allergenic substances that must be marked on the packaging in mainland China are ↓

1. Cereals containing bran and their products (wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt or their hybrids).

2. Crustaceans and their products (e.g. shrimp, lobster, crab, etc.).

3. Fish and its products, eggs and their products, peanuts and their products, soybeans and their products, milk and dairy products (including lactose), nuts and their nut products.

• Focus on the manufacturer, production date and shelf life.

Just because a food is past its expiration date doesn't mean it can't be eaten. The shelf life refers to the period during which any aspect of the food will not change significantly, and the food beyond the shelf life may have sensory decline, taste change, etc., but it does not affect the consumption. However, for the sake of food taste and health, it is not recommended to eat foods that have exceeded the shelf life.
