On the afternoon of May 11, students from Shangwai Yunjian Middle School, Shangwai Yunjian Primary School and some students from Shangwai Yunjian Primary School East School appeared on the stage of the closing ceremony of the 3rd Shangwai Yunjian International Cultural Festival, and interpreted the understanding of cultural integration in the new era with wonderful performances.
A foreign language dubbing show of "Chinese Civilization International Image Network Propaganda Film" kicked off the performance. On the stage, multilingual communication shows the charm of the world's multiculturalism, and also reflects the students' enthusiasm for learning based on China and understanding the world. Created by the teachers and students of the junior high school of Shangwai Yunjian Middle School, the English drama "Bridge of the Border" is set in an Iranian town on the modern Silk Road, and tells the story of a Chinese bridge engineer and his team repairing the old bridge for the Iranian people. "The five protagonists in the story come from five different countries, and due to their different cultural backgrounds, they had many conflicts during the progress of the bridge restoration project, but finally reached an agreement and completed the bridge repair. This shows that conflict is not terrible, but an opportunity to increase understanding and move towards symbiotic integration. Although Zhang Yuanxi, a student of Class 7 (5), only played a supporting role in the play, she had a deep understanding of the overall situation and theme of the plot.
Unlike the hilarity of "Bridge to the Border", the mime "Where is the Thief" conveys emotions just right with exaggerated and rich body language. "The farthest distance in the world is not the distance between trees, but the branches that grow from the same root, but cannot cling to each other in the wind." The actor of Chaplin in the play, Yang Ho Hong, a student in the first (5th) class of high school, quoted Tagore's poems to express his understanding of "Where is the Thief". Zhou Hailong, the chief counselor of the Shangwai Yunjian Drama Club, introduced that the drama club relies on the artistic "one-stop drama", creates scripts based on current social realities, and boldly challenges different forms of dramatic expression.
In the more than 2-hour wonderful performance, in addition to the multilingual and multi-repertoire joint singing, youthful and energetic dance, and the original stage play of conflict and integration, there are also the phased achievements of the school's original "English Speaking Essay Series" such as "Confucius Travels Around the World", "What is a Wise Man" and "What is Filial Piety" that were put on the stage by the students. Liu Yuanyuan, a parent of the student, commented: "This activity guides children to understand and integrate by adhering to the connection between traditional Chinese culture and the world, helps children understand the world and clarify their responsibilities at the same time, and then motivates them to study hard, which is very good!" ”
Jin Xiaoyan, vice principal of Shangwai Yunjian Middle School, introduced that as a project school for the implementation of new curriculum and new textbooks in Shanghai ordinary high schools, the school has determined that "Research on the<论语> Development and Practice of School-based Characteristic Curriculum Based on Curriculum Integration" will be one of the key research disciplines and cross-school perspectives since 2023, and will explore the implementation path of school-based characteristic curriculum based on the topic. Over the past year, the school has started from an interdisciplinary and cross-stage perspective, with the help of the rich educational resources of Shanghai Foreign Chinese University, and adopted a theme-based project-based learning method that integrates meanings, and carried out the course of "English Speaking Lunyu", so as to promote the improvement of students' learning quality and the cultivation of higher-order thinking.
