Recently, the Department of Oncology and the Department of Minimally Invasive Digestive Diagnosis and Treatment of the First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly used the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration model to successfully place an esophageal stent for a patient with complex esophageal cancer. This is not only the first time that this technology has been applied in clinical practice in our hospital, but also fills the gap in this field of technology in our hospital. This breakthrough not only reflects the hospital's significant progress in the treatment of esophageal cancer, but also highlights its leading position in the application of laparoscopic technology in the province.
Uncle Song has been drinking alcohol for a long time and has sequelae of cerebral infarction, and has recently developed dysphagia, and the symptoms are getting worse day by day. At the suggestion of his family, Uncle Song underwent a gastroscopy, which showed that his esophagus was a cancerous tumor up to 10 centimeters long, which seriously affected his diet and health. Due to the inability to eat and drink, Uncle Song suffered from severe malnutrition and aspiration pneumonia, accompanied by fever and other symptoms, so they went to the Department of Oncology of our hospital to seek professional treatment from Director Sui Bowen.
Sui Bowen made an in-depth analysis of Uncle Song's condition and believed that the patient's condition was "based" on the internal accumulation of poisonous evils and fever as the "standard". Prompt defervescence prevents the body from continuing to be depleted and helps to restore or improve one's ability to resist disease. He emphasized that in the treatment of fever in cancer patients, it is necessary to measure the important position of the "heat" of the "standard" and the "poison" of the "root" in the pathogenesis, and determine the treatment order. The pursuit of temporary defervescence should be avoided at the expense of the root cause. For those with low heat potential, it is mainly used to straighten and fight cancer, supplemented by antipyretic products. However, some patients have high fever in a short period of time, and the righteous qi should be disscorched quickly, so as to avoid the depletion of qi, supplemented by detoxification and anti-cancer, but beware of bitter cold and stomach products. Once the pyrolysis is safe, it will be adjusted to the treatment plan based on "strengthening the right and curing cancer" in time. During the treatment, the medical team composed of Director Sui Bowen, Deputy Director Li Yu and Dr. Tang Renzhe comprehensively used traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment methods, as well as the careful care of the nursing team, to effectively control Uncle Song's malnutrition and lung infection symptoms.
In view of Uncle Song's strong desire to resume oral feeding, the Department of Oncology invited Liu Ying, director of the Department of Minimally Invasive Digestive Diagnosis and Treatment to consult. Director Liu's opinion is to place esophageal stents for the patient, but due to the patient's long-term alcoholism combined with alcoholic liver injury, the coagulation function decreases, the malignant tumor is long, a special stent is needed, there are large blood vessels such as thoracic aorta near the cancer, the beginning of the cancer is close to the front teeth, and anesthesia will cause aspiration and suffocation, which makes the operation more difficult. After careful preoperative preparation, Director Liu Ying's team finally successfully placed the esophageal stent graft for Uncle Song after more than 20 minutes of operation under the guidance of gastroscopy and radiology. On the day after the operation, Uncle Song began to drink water, and the next day after the operation, he began to eat liquids, and his face showed a smile that he had not seen for a long time.
