According to Thai media news, on March 28, the Thai police searched four telecom fraud dens in the area of Chawang and Nabang districts in Nakhon Thamon Province, and successfully arrested 71 Chinese and Thai wire fraudsters. At the same time, several fugitives were arrested in the Chumphon area, as well as more than 200 computers, more than 1,000 mobile phones, nearly 100 bank passbooks and other stolen goods were seized.
At present, there is a new development in the case. On 9 May, senior police officials from the 8th Precinct reported information about the case to the National Security, Border Affairs, National Strategy and National Reform Committee of the Thai House of Commons.
In this regard, the important information concluded by the Commission is that the case has been upgraded to the nature of a transnational criminal organization and that on April 27, Assistant Director General of the National Police, Tachai, ordered the Nakhon Thammarat Provincial Police to transfer the case to the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) and to file additional charges against the 63 arrested persons in the Central Thai Territory, as well as to refer the case to the Attorney General under Article 20 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
At the same time, on May 4, the Nakhon Thammarat Provincial Police Department handed over all the relevant documents and seized stolen goods to the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau.
It is worth noting that after an extended police investigation, it was found that the mastermind behind the largest Chinese wire fraud gang ever captured in Thailand is suspected to be the family of a politician in Nakhon Tat Province, but there is still no information on the progress. More notably, the politician has ties to senior police officials in the National Police of Thailand and has also appeared with national politicians on several occasions.
