In 1979, Eve Arnold, the first female photographer of Magnum Photos, came to China twice, covering Beijing, Shanghai, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan and other places. After returning to the United States, she published the photographs taken in China in the form of a photo album and named "A Trip to China".

In 1980, she held a solo exhibition of her Chinese works at the Brooklyn Museum. In the same year, she won the National Book Award for her photographic collection "A Trip to China".
