The "May Day" holiday is coming

Gatherings of family and friends are indispensable

Healthy Beijing reminds you

Do not be greedy for cups or drink at meetings

Drink and do what you can

Don't be greedy for drinks at holiday gatherings, and properly prevent acute alcohol poisoning

1. What is acute alcoholism?

Acute alcoholism refers to the state of central nervous system dysfunction after ingesting a large amount of alcohol or alcoholic beverages in a short period of time, with abnormal behavior and consciousness, and in severe cases, organ function is damaged, resulting in respiratory and circulatory failure, which is then life-threatening, also known as acute ethanol poisoning. There are three stages of alcoholism:

1

Euphoria:

Headaches, excitement, talkativeness, emotional instability, rude or aggressive behavior, or silence and withdrawal.

2

Ataxia phase:

Uncoordinated muscle movements, clumsy movements, slurred speech, blurred vision, unsteady gait, accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

3

Stupor period:

Falling into a deep coma, dilated pupils, decreased body temperature, decreased blood pressure, slow breathing, snoring, respiratory and circulatory failure can occur and become life-threatening.

2. The dangers of excessive drinking

1

Alcoholic liver:

Alcoholic liver disease is commonly referred to as alcoholic fatty liver disease in medicine, which is easily triggered by long-term heavy drinking, and when alcoholic fatty liver disease worsens, it may develop into alcoholic hepatitis, alcoholic liver fibrosis and alcoholic cirrhosis.

2

Causes of cardiovascular disease:

Drinking too much alcohol is more likely to get high blood pressure, high triglycerides, heart muscle diseases, etc.

3

Raise other questions:

Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to obesity and is also closely related to the incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding, esophageal cancer, rectal cancer, breast cancer and other diseases.

3. What to do about acute alcoholism?

Stay away from these taboos!

1

Keep away from dangerous sites

Delirium, uncoordinated movements, and emotional instability after being drunk, can be dangerous at any time.

At this time, the people around you must always accompany you until you send the alcoholic person to a safe place, and you must stay away from swimming pools, highlands, jumping platforms and other places, and do not touch controlled knives. Don't let them drive!

2

Prevent aspiration

Aspiration is the leading cause of death in patients with acute alcoholism. For patients with alcohol poisoning, the entire body, including the head, should be tilted to one side and sideways at 90 degrees.

It is important not to lie on the back to prevent aspiration of vomit into the trachea, inducing aspiration pneumonia or even causing the patient to suffocate, or vomit to irritate the trachea and cause reflex cardiac arrest through the vagus reflex.

3

Keep warm

Patients with acute alcohol poisoning have dilated blood vessels throughout the body and emit a lot of heat, especially in a cold environment, which is easy to cause hypothermia, which can cause hypercoagulation, hyperglycemia and arrhythmia in the body, resulting in accidental death.

For patients with acute alcohol poisoning, the room temperature should be appropriately raised, the quilt should be covered, warm measures should be taken, and energy should be replenished, and bed sheets and clothes should be changed in time to avoid getting cold.

4

Pay attention to the identification of disulfiram-like reactions

Acetaldehyde poisoning occurs when patients take drugs containing groups such as N-methylthiotetrazole, such as cefoperazone, before or during alcohol consumption. There is a reaction similar to that of alcohol consumption after taking the alcohol withdrawal drug disulfiram (also known as disulfide awakening, disulfide withdrawal), and the onset usually occurs within half an hour of drinking.

The main manifestations of patients are facial flushing, blurred vision, headache, shortness of breath, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, weakness of limbs, excessive sweating, insomnia, and in severe cases, blood pressure drops, dyspnea, and even loss of consciousness, convulsions and death, which generally last for 2~6 hours.

Therefore, patients with acute alcoholism should pay attention to recent drug history, and disulfiram-like reactions can occur during or within 5 days of drug use. If found, you should be sent to a nearby hospital in time.

5

Call 120 in time

If the breathing and heartbeat of an alcoholic person are found to be stopped, cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be carried out immediately, and the emergency number 120 should be called immediately.
