The birth of Si Wu Jie Boutique Hotel was born from the love between two young owners, hoping to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and find a place that belongs to the hearts of the two. So in 2016, on the southwest side of the tourist wharf in the Xihai Scenic Area, facing the Xihai Sea, the first Si Wuxian was opened, mainly for two people to vacation and study poetry and songs, and spread the culture of Chinese culture. But at that time, it was before the global epidemic, and the national holiday tourism was booming, and the supply of rooms exceeded the demand.

The new phase of Si Wuxian is located in the Lushan Xihai Scenic Area of Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, the site is located in the large orange grove of the town, close to the lake and clear water, with a wide field of vision, which can directly embrace the distant mountains and near the water, which is a rare place to escape from the world.

Although the surrounding environment of the site is beautiful, the site itself is overgrown with weeds and barren, with a slight height difference. The existing building is a four-storey building with a 3.9-meter bay and is in an unfinished state. The building structure is mixed, the first floor is a reinforced concrete frame structure, and the 2nd to 4th floors are brick and concrete structures. Such a structural status quo is far from enough in terms of flexibility in the division of transformation space and in the reserve of work structure loads, which is a great challenge in the reinforcement and optimization of the structure. In addition, the exterior wall of the original building is closed and enclosed, separated from the small bungalow on the first floor, isolated from the site and the environment, and we urgently need to break the deadlock and establish a new place relationship.

Merging the site with nature

The core concept of the renovation is to transform the monotonous square volume formed by the original single function of the building into a complex function and rich layer of spatial aggregates, and to transform the closed and isolated tube building into an open public building that integrates the site and the natural landscape. We adopted the strategy of horizontal decomposition, adding a horizontal roof to divide the original four-story façade horizontally at a 1:3 scale, which not only solved the original problem of incongruous building proportions, but also obtained an extensible tension under the eaves, responding to the climate problem of sun and rain, and at the same time dividing the "opened ground floor space", providing the largest open public supporting area for the whole project and becoming part of the landscape courtyard. The second floor provides a horizontal private viewing platform to better shorten the distance to the dialogue with the landscape.

Storing mountains and seas

"A spiritual home that accommodates the scenery of mountains and seas". Despite the challenges of the current state of the building, the design adheres to an ideal vision that all guests can enjoy directly from the landscape, and we orient all guest rooms and public event spaces towards the best possible views. In terms of space planning, the service space is oriented to the village to facilitate logistics operations, and the service space is oriented to the scenery, so that the guest rooms, cafes, restaurants, libraries and other public spaces are facing the scenery to obtain the best view of 180°-270°.

The design of the guest room unfolds in a step-by-step manner, from the corridor to the door, from the cloakroom to the balcony, which is a spatial sequence and spiritual experience from private to open, from dynamic to quiet, from dark to bright, and finally to the integration with the scenery.

Getaway

According to the characteristics of the project and the operation idea, we put forward the theme concept of Zhuangzi's "Getaway", hoping to express a view of life that pursues absolute freedom in nature, forgetting the boundaries of things and self, and achieving the realm of selflessness, merit and namelessness, and swimming in infinity without anything to rely on. Therefore, the project is characterized by the unconscious and unrestricted nature of the getaway, focusing on the pursuit of the spiritual level, pointing to nature, taking simplicity and restraint as the design keynote, and presenting the architectural style, space and decoration in a concise and suitable state.
