Since joining the public security work, Yang Fan has participated in the examination of more than 10,000 pieces of biological evidence, provided key clues for more than 2,000 criminal cases, provided important technical support for the current murder cases in Shanghai for ten consecutive years, and led the team to innovate the use of new inspection and comparison methods to directly help solve nearly 50 homicide cases.
Since 2023, Yang Fan has led the team to expand the research of new genetic markers, innovated and formed a multi-dimensional biological evidence detection technology, effectively improved the depth and accuracy of target positioning, and quickly transformed scientific research results into actual combat, and made full use of new domestic leading technologies such as new technology and combat methods to successfully solve a number of homicide cases, which were highly recognized by the Ministry of Public Security and promoted and exchanged across the country.
Technology helps "illuminate" the road to reunion
While participating in the crackdown on major and difficult cases, Yang Fan actively practices the concept of "people-centered" and aspires to be an unsung hero behind the scenes in the fight against crime. Over the years, he has led the team to continuously summarize the data rules in the identification of relatives, consult a large number of literature, and design and develop a complex kinship index calculation software, which has helped more than 220 families reunite in the identification of the kinship of homeless and separated persons and the tackling of cases, with the longest time span of 63 years.
Forensic technology "blends" artificial intelligence
As the leader of the first batch of key laboratories of the Ministry of Public Security in China, Yang Fan led the team to closely combine the needs of actual combat, take on-site physical evidence as the research theme, and artificial intelligence as the engine, and build the key laboratory into a frontier position to solve the problem of "stuck neck" in actual public security combat, realizing the double improvement of the number of cases solved and the technical content, and becoming the first batch of practitioners to promote artificial intelligence to empower forensic science.
