Before the arrival of the May Day holiday, the city's Qianhai line added two new underpasses to cross the street - Laiyang Road Underwater World Tunnel and Donghai East Road Polar Ocean World Tunnel were put into use at the same time on April 30, which will further alleviate traffic congestion on the surrounding roads, and citizens and tourists will be more convenient and safe.

Last year, the city combined urban renewal construction, traffic congestion control, municipal practical work and other work, launched the construction plan research and preliminary procedures of two underpasses. During the implementation process, the Municipal Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development focused on the demands of the masses, strengthened overall coordination, and sank the front line of the project, together with the Municipal Public Security Bureau, the Municipal Garden Bureau, the Municipal Examination and Approval Bureau and other departments to actively serve, strengthen cooperation, and focus on guarantees, and make every effort to promote the implementation of the project. The construction unit, Laoshan District Urban Management Bureau and Qingdao Tourism Group, anchored the goal, continued to make efforts, competed for time, organized the construction unit to promote the construction of the project in an orderly manner, and finally ensured that the two tunnels were opened before May Day this year.

Qingdao Underwater World is located on the shore of Huiquan Bay, adjacent to famous scenic spots such as Lu Xun Park, No. 1 Bathing Beach, and Little Qingdao. In order to protect the geological landscape of Qianhai, the project continued to demonstrate and optimize the design scheme in the early stage, and finally determined the optimal solution of "protection + renewal", renovated the existing scenic passage located under Laiyang Road, combined with the scenic area planning to build a new passage entrance, cancel the pedestrian crossing on the ground of Laiyang Road, and realize the separation of people and vehicles.

From now on, visitors who park in the parking lot of the underwater world can walk directly to the tunnel entrance and exit of the south gate, and go to the ticket gate on the south side through the tunnel to enter the scenic spot; tourists who arrive by bus on the north side get off at Lu Xun Park Station, they can walk to the east to the entrance and exit of the tunnel to cross the street, or they can go to the underwater world or Xiaoqingdao, Lu Xun Park, and the Navy Museum after crossing the street through the ground signal 30 meters to the west.

The Polar Ocean World tunnel is located under Donghai East Road, on the east side of Haiyou Road and on the west side of Haijiang Road, using a combination of open excavation and underground excavation, and the main passage of the new tunnel is about 42 meters long.

The project is similar to the Laiyang Road Qingdao Underwater World Tunnel Project, adjacent to the underground water body and aquatic life breeding area of the Polar Ocean World Scenic Area, and the construction cannot be excavated by blasting operations and noisy equipment. In order to ensure the successful completion of the construction of the underground tunnel, the project adopts mechanical + rhinestone and other low-impact construction methods in combination with the geological distribution of micro-weathered rock, and at the same time, the sound insulation cover plate is set up at the open excavation on both sides of the road, and the noise is monitored regularly in the scenic area to control the noise within a controllable range. After the tunnel is put into use, citizens and tourists crossing the street will no longer need to wait for ground signals, and will directly reach the scenic spot or take a bus through the tunnel, which will be more convenient to travel. After the cancellation of the original ground signal lights and zebra crossings, the driving speed and traffic efficiency of the road nodes will also be greatly improved. It is worth mentioning that there is a two-way elevator in the underpass, which will be easier and more convenient for tourists to pass through.
