Fast Technology reported on April 29 that BYD's clairvoyance model is expected to return.
According to a report by the National Internet Emergency Response Center, 18 models of the BYD Hantang series have met four compliance standards for automotive data security.
These four standards include: anonymization of facial information outside the vehicle, non-collection of cockpit data by default, in-vehicle processing of cockpit data, and significant notification of processing of personal information.
Among them, "anonymization of face information outside the car" is the main reason for the discontinuation of BYD's clairvoyance function.
As early as 2019, BYD launched the "clairvoyant" function, which allows car owners to remotely control multiple cameras on the car through the APP, supporting millisecond-level transmission rates, high-definition playback image quality and local image storage, so as to realize functions such as checking lost items, viewing parking space information, and monitoring of the inside and outside of the car.
However, in 2022, BYD suspended the "clairvoyant" function. In response, BYD's customer service responded that according to the latest regulatory requirements, when the car collects video and image data outside the car and provides it to the outside of the car, it should anonymize the face and license plate information in the data on the car side. At present, the clairvoyance function is being optimized based on this regulatory requirement, so it is not possible to provide clairvoyance call exterior imaging services for the time being.
By October 2023, the owner of the BYD Tang DM-i Champion Edition revealed that the clairvoyance function has been restored, and the license plate in the screen will be coded.
Now, the 18 models of the BYD Hantang series have passed the compliance test, which means that the clairvoyant function may be fully opened soon.
