On April 12, the Forestry Bureau of Yuanqu County and the Shanxi Gucheng National Wetland Park Conservation Center held the 43rd "Bird Week" theme publicity activity. The theme of this event is "Improving the Conservation System and Protecting Migratory Birds". It aims to guide the public to firmly establish the concept of respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature, and consciously participate in the protection of birds and other wild animals and plants.
The open water surface, flat terrain and extensive tidal flats of Shanxi Gucheng National Wetland Park have given birth to rich flora and fauna in the wetland. There are 159 species of birds in the park, including the black stork, a national first-class protected animal, 15 species of national second-class protected animals, such as white spoonbill, whooper swan, bar-headed merganser, osprey, sparrowhawk, peregrine falcon, kestrel, and little owl, and 12 species of heron and golden-eyed plover, which are key protected animals in Shanxi Province. Last year, cattle egrets, white-eyed pochards, ruddy ducks, bar-headed mergansers, red-headed gulls, and crowned fish dogs were detected for the first time in the bird habitat of Bocheng. In late March 2024, herons and egrets nested and multiplied in the bamboo willow forest belt on time.
In this activity, the wetland staff publicized the knowledge of wildlife protection to the villagers and tourists around the wetland through on-site explanations, hanging banners, and distributing brochures on the protection of wild animals, showing the effectiveness of wildlife protection in Shanxi Gucheng National Wetland Park, and creating a strong atmosphere of loving and protecting birds.
At the same time, the event vigorously called on the public to be propagandists of bird love and bird protection, protectors of bird survival, and practitioners of ecological concepts, protect the ecological environment with love and action, and promote the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
