Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the Model 2 will be launched in 2025, which will be positioned lower than the Model 3 and may become a mainstream electric vehicle with a price of less than 150,000-200,000 yuan.

The rumors about the Model 2 model have not been broken, but the Tesla brand has never given an accurate response, and Musk's response has basically determined the landing of the car project;

Will the launch of the Model 2 change Tesla's brand positioning?

So far, the mass production models of the Tesla brand are Model 3/Y/S/X and the pickup truck model Cybertruck, of which only the first four cars are sold in the Chinese market; the lowest price model is the Tesla Model 3, the current starting price is 231,900 yuan, and the Model 2 is said to be a hatchback, the size should be compact, and its product positioning is naturally not high, at best it can be positioned in the range of 150,000-200,000 yuan.

Referring to the current high-selling pure electric hatchbacks, such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and the MG4 EV, which is the best-selling car in the European market, perhaps the price of the Model 2 will only be lower, because the main versions of these two cars are priced within 150,000 yuan, and the two-wheel drive version adopts rear-wheel drive, and the MG4 EV 150,000-level option has a high-performance four-wheel drive version that can break 100 in 3.8 seconds.

Now is not the time when Tesla is dominant, and its product pricing needs to refer to competing products, so the price of the Model 2 may be a surprise.

If the price of the Model 2 is too low, Tesla's brand positioning will be affected; after all, before the Model 2, the lowest-priced Model 3 is still a mid-to-high-end car, and conversely, this brand is not considered a high-end brand? This is the reason why some auto analysts are not optimistic about the Model 2 project, as long as the Model 2 is launched, it may become a best-selling car, but it is also very likely to have an impact on the sales of the Model 3/Y. Generally speaking, there are lower-priced best-selling products in a brand, and the "sense of luxury" of this brand may be weakened, so some traditional car manufacturers have recently chosen to stop producing low-cost models, and Tesla's operation seems to be the opposite.
