My name is Wang Erping, and I am a grassroots worker in Niujialiang Town, Yuyang District, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. Our village is located 20 kilometers north of the city, with an area of 4,800 acres of cultivated land, 12.3 kilometers long from north to south, and consists of 9 villager groups, with a population of 2,330 people in 654 households. Located in a remote area without any resources, the villagers mainly work in addition to farming. The village has no industrial support, a weak economic foundation, and a poor foundation.
In 2018, the village collective economic cooperative was established, and until 2022 it was still in a state of "sleep". At the beginning of 2022, the party committee and government asked to start the cooperative, but seeing the actual situation in my village, I was very confused and didn't know where to start. After the guidance of the party committee and government and the investigation, investigation and demonstration of the members of the village collective team, it was decided to take the lead of the village collective cooperative to start ostrich breeding, and radiate to the villagers from point to point. In terms of funds, party members and cadres are encouraged to raise funds to solve them, and technical problems are organized to go out to study and study.
What is established, must be done. In August of that year, we and the party committee and government cadres in the village and the backbone members of the cooperatives of a group of 5 people successively in the province of Dali, Baoji, Shandong, Hebei Baoding, Inner Mongolia Ulanqab and other places to study, explore, demonstrate. And on August 26, the first batch of ostriches was bought back and began trial breeding. Due to the lack of enclosure management, feed ratio, disease prevention and control, etc., after consulting peers, consulting Baidu information and consulting experts and scholars after unremitting efforts, we gradually figured out some key points of ostrich breeding, mastered the basic principles of enclosure management, learned a reasonable feed ratio method, and had a preliminary understanding of the prevention and control of possible diseases. After finally passing the 7-day emergency response period, we set off to Baoding, Hebei Province on September 16 to purchase 128 8-month-old commercial birds for standardized breeding management.
In August 2023, the government party committee asked me to expand the scale of business, so we raised funds to buy back 18 egg-laying birds and 175 3-month-old small commercial birds. So far, our breeding birds have begun to lay eggs, and ostrich meat has also been recognized by the market. And this year, 5 new villagers have joined the ranks of ostrich farming. With the continuous expansion of villagers' farmers, we will gradually realize the characteristic breeding of "one village, one product" in our village.
On April 15, 2024, I had the honor to participate in the "Head Goose" cultivation project in Yuyang District held by Northwest A&F University, which was a valuable opportunity for me to gain an in-depth understanding of the current agricultural policy orientation, cutting-edge knowledge of the farming and breeding industry, and to meet many like-minded industry leaders and experts and professors. In particular, I would like to thank my supervisor, Professor Ren Zhanjun, who had an in-depth discussion and exchange with me for more than 2 hours, and gave me in-depth guidance on ostrich breeding management technology, brooding, feed ratio, etc. Through the exchange and learning with Professor Ren, I not only improved my breeding skills, but also learned how to better face and solve the problems encountered in the breeding process.
