"The ostrich is full of treasures, not only the meat and eggs have high edible value, but the ostrich fur can also be made into handicrafts. Bai Wensheng, the person in charge of the ostrich breeding base, was busy mixing the feed evenly and preparing a "meal" for the ostriche, while introducing it with relish.
In 2021, Bai Wensheng learned that the benefits of raising ostriches are good, and it is mainly herbivorous, supplemented by concentrate feed, fast growth, easy to raise, strong disease resistance, belongs to the emerging breeding industry, and the market prospect is very good, so he came up with the idea of raising ostriches. In that year, more than 50 ostrich seedlings were purchased and the entrepreneurial road of ostrich breeding began.
According to Bai Wensheng, raising ostriches is relatively simple, feeding twice a day, vegetables, weeds, peanuts or crushed straw can be used as feed, and these "feed" are everywhere in the countryside, and there is no need for special care in the harsh winter and heat, saving time and effort. Bai Wensheng not only increased his income while breeding, but also did not miss the farm work at home.
When asked about the income of breeding, Bai Wensheng smiled from ear to ear, "Ostrich has the advantages of fast growth, strong fecundity, easy to raise and strong disease resistance, and its feathers, skin, meat, eggs and other economic value are high, at present, the breeding base breeds a total of 150 ostriches, half of which are in the egg laying period." Each ostrich lays 60-80 eggs per year, and in addition to commercial eggs, it can also hatch more than 500 chicks. "On the market, ostrich meat is 70-80 yuan/kg, eggs are 150-200 yuan/piece, chicks are 500-800 yuan/piece, ostrich feathers are 650 yuan/kg, and each ostrich can achieve an income of more than 3,500 yuan, and the net income is more than 50 yuan, which is considerable. Now the ostriches raised in the base are sold to order, and they are in short supply in the market. ”
Rural revitalization and industrial prosperity are the foundation. In recent years, Taishan Miao Town has aimed at market demand, adapted measures to local conditions, and vigorously developed characteristic planting and breeding in accordance with the principle of "one village, one product", accelerated the formation of scale effect, promoted agricultural transformation and upgrading, and continued to increase farmers' income.
