Learning calligraphy is both painful and joyful. You have to work slowly. Non-long-term persistence will not be effective. It is difficult for those who are eager for quick success to appreciate the essence of the art of calligraphy.
Yu Xishu has been studying for a year, but because he was born with a low level of ignorance and understanding, he has not achieved much so far. However, due to his long-term persistence in studying, he has also gained a little. The process of studying is a very important experience, and only self-knowledge is the joy and bitterness. Occasional gains are considered enjoyment. Now I would like to talk about my superficial understanding of my views and perceptions over the years.
1. Hanmo karma
Everything is about fate. I have a deep connection to calligraphy. I remember when I was a child, every Spring Festival, my father would take me to an old gentleman's house in my village to read and write Spring Festival couplets. When I was in junior high school, the homeroom teacher attached great importance to the cleanliness of the homework and required the students to practice calligraphy with a hard pen every day before class. When I was in high school, my Chinese teacher wrote well, and the teacher's board book became my practice book, and it didn't matter whether I understood the content of the coursework or not, but a blank sheet of paper was already full. After enlisting in the army, the company's blackboard newspaper and wall newspaper became a world for me to show my talents. Later, I met friends in the calligraphy and painting industry and learned calligraphy from my mentor, all because of fate. As far as calligraphy is concerned, which one you are good at, which school you like, and which one you are proficient in are all fate.
2. Abandon the vulgar and become elegant
Calligraphy is a noble art. Learning calligraphy is inseparable from copying, because copying is a lifelong task for calligraphers. The so-called copying is to learn from the Dharma. Referring to the traditional calligraphy classics, through the practice of one stroke at a time, to standardize one's own writing behavior, eliminate inherent habits, master calligraphy skills, and understand the internal rules of calligraphy, such as brushwork, frame, chapter, and spirit. So as to improve the level of appreciation and creativity. Copying is the best way for students to improve their creative ability. The deeper the copying, the more thorough the understanding, the more free the creation, and the more wonderful the realm. The process of learning calligraphy is a process of constantly abandoning the common and becoming elegant.
III. Enlightenment
Song Zhang Junfang's "Seven Signatures of the Clouds" Volume 5: "Learning the Tao should be like piercing a well, the deeper the well, the more difficult it is to come out. The method is important, but it must also be persevering, with its perseverance and perseverance, diligent practice, through a large number of temporary post writing practice, there will eventually be a process from quantitative change to qualitative change, when the critical point of quantitative change and qualitative change is reached, you will be free to worry, into the state of free creation without exceeding the rules. The stories of "Oil Seller", "Ji Chang Learning to Shoot", and "Ku Ding Solving the Cow" give people a revelation that there must be a long-term process of cultivation from the technique to the Tao, and it is by no means an overnight function to achieve the realm.
Fourth, to learn to cultivate books
On the surface, calligraphy creation is just writing, but to write well, reach a high artistic level, and even enter the wonderful realm of transcendence, it is impossible not to rely on academic cultivation. Su Dongpo, a scholar and great calligrapher of the Song Dynasty, said: "The pen is not enough to be treasured when you withdraw from the pen, and you can read thousands of volumes from the beginning of your mind." "The brilliance of pen and ink is often the embodiment of the author's profound knowledge. History, philosophy, literature, art, music, dance, and even astronomy and geography are all inextricably linked to calligraphy, both directly and subtly. Calligraphy is a reflection of a comprehensive discipline.
Fifth, morality is the teacher
The ancients often associated "books" with "character". There is a certain truth in "books are like people", which is the traditional concept of our Chinese nation. The ancient sages and great virtues all regarded self-cultivation and morality as the top priority of being a person. Tang Liu Gongquan said: The heart is correct and the pen is correct, and Xiang Mu's "Calligraphy Yayan" in the Ming Dynasty is correct: the person is correct and the book is correct. Fu Shan, a famous scholar and calligrapher of the Qing Dynasty, believed that "writing words is the first to be a person, and people are strange characters since ancient times". Sima Guang, a politician and historian of the Northern Song Dynasty, said: "Those who are talented are also the assets of virtue, and those who are virtuous are also handsome." All of them emphasize the importance of virtue in standing up and being a human being. Calligraphy is an art form based on Chinese characters, which can best represent the traditional culture of the mainland and is the essence of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation, so it has a broad mass base in the mainland. Today's people of insight regard learning calligraphy as an effective way to inherit Chinese culture, proposing to "write Chinese characters well and be Chinese". Let calligraphy re-enter the school into the classroom, so that every Chinese can receive calligraphy education from an early age, so as to achieve the purpose of correct writing, correct heart, and correct person. Therefore, the process of learning calligraphy is also a process of cultivating one's mind and learning to be a person.
Sixth, the avenue is connected
Recently, I had tea and chatted with a friend. I learned that this friend was reading "Journey to the West". He said: "Journey to the West" is a book that guides people on how to practice. And I realized that the book narrates the encounter of Tang monks and apprentices on the way to the west to learn scriptures, which actually alludes to the whole process of each of our lives. From the moment man was born, he embarked on the journey to the west to learn the scriptures. Whether a person can obtain the true scriptures in his life depends on whether he can withstand the test of temptation and tribulation in the journey of life. Depending on the level of cultivation, the outcome is completely different. I agree with that. Chinese culture is a culture of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. In my opinion, although the teachings of the three religions are different, the ultimate goal is very similar. Although the book is a small road, it is a good road. Zen tea tastes, books are also Zen, once enlightened, then all the way.
