Along with the concept of green exhibitions, the "Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative", which was launched at the first Consumer Expo, has also achieved expansion again, welcoming three new members: Mars China, China Southern Airlines Group, and Accenture China. This brings the number of partners of the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative to 17.

In fact, for enterprises, sustainable consumption is not only a manifestation of social responsibility, but also a keen insight and response to market demand. The reporter of "China Business Daily" learned at the scene of the Consumer Expo that many enterprises believe that with policy support, the promotion of technological innovation, and the growing awareness of environmental protection among consumers, sustainable consumption has increasingly become a necessary choice for the development of enterprises.

Explore new green business opportunities

2024 is the "Year of Consumption Promotion", and in the context of promoting consumption, the mainland consumer market has shown many new characteristics, and the pursuit of green, healthy and sustainable consumption is one of them. New consumption, which is characterized by green and sustainability, is stimulating new industries, new business formats and new business models, and opening up new tracks for unleashing consumption potential, promoting consumption upgrading and promoting consumption development.

The most typical is the "trade-in". Yang Hua, deputy director of the Department of Market Operation and Consumption Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce, said that in recent years, the Ministry of Commerce and relevant departments have worked together to promote sustainable consumption and continuously meet the people's demand for green and low-carbon consumption. Hu Wenjuan, director of the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative Research Center, also mentioned that in the future business world, sustainable consumption will not only make the world greener, greener and more sustainable through consumption, but also allow everyone in the future to understand the relationship between people and consumption more accurately. By innovating to meet the sustainable consumer needs of the new world, the new consumption panorama of the future may be beyond expectations. In such a consumption scenario, consumers not only get goods or services, but also complete their self-pursuit in the spiritual world, and each enterprise or brand will also realize the innovation of products or business models.

There are already companies that have made moves. Guided by the Sustainable Beauty strategy, Coty is integrating sustainability standards into all of its new products, optimizing responsible sourcing and supply chain transparency and packaging with less, conserving natural resources and maintaining a healthy, clean and safe environment for the planet, and accelerating inclusive training and diversity for employees.

The reporter learned that the Coty booth at the 2024 Consumer Expo also exhibited its latest China-listed sustainable perfume made with 100% carbon capture ethanol in the group.

Xun Zhang, managing director of strategy and consulting at Accenture Greater China, said that companies have been focusing on how to make people more sustainable, rather than making sustainability more humane, and this important factor that has been overlooked is the key to helping companies carry out sustainable actions. According to people's different worldviews and values of sustainable living, six archetypes can be summarized: diligent optimists, staunch pragmatists, and self-interested idealists. Accenture's Human-Aged Data Platform can identify the transition entry points for different archetypes to participate in sustainable living, and suggest that companies conduct experiments in the industry in three aspects: defining sustainability, connecting with the public, and making motivational behaviors.

In recent years, "scene" has become a hot word in the consumer field. As for how to develop a new scenario-driven sustainable consumption model, Wang Tao, general manager of public affairs of Pop Mart International Group, believes that giving more sustainable values to different IPs will popularize sustainable consumption behavior.

At the same time, Zhang Dachuan, vice president and chief content officer of WWD International Fashion News, said that more and more fashion companies and brands are carrying out projects with the theme of environmental protection and health, and actively changing the way they communicate with consumers.

The relevant person in charge of Bloomage Biotech told reporters that this year, with the theme of "Technology + Green Igniting a New National Tide", Bloomage Biotech exhibited the company's ESG strategic achievements for the first time at the Consumer Expo. Its brand "Runbaiyan" launched a "air traffic control recycling" program for consumers to participate in the second throwaway. In addition, recently, the retail brand Wangfujing Group has linked up with stores across the country to carry out a series of activities such as "carbon reduction", "age reduction", "fat reduction" and "stress reduction" around healthy life, green consumption and sustainable development.

Wang Keyi, deputy director of the Industrial Internet Research and Evaluation Department of China Software Evaluation Center, pointed out that the "three products" strategy with the connotation of "increasing varieties, improving quality, and creating brands" is an important starting point for promoting the high-quality development of the consumer goods industry. Among them, in terms of increasing varieties, the level of green manufacturing and resource utilization efficiency have been significantly improved, and smart green consumer goods have continued to grow. At the same time, the consumption scene is constantly innovating, and the consumer goods with national characteristics are innovating.

The Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative (GSIP) has been expanded

The reporter learned that at the first Consumer Expo in 2021, the Sustainable Development Tribune launched the "Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative" with a number of enterprises.

At this year's Consumer Expo, the "Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative" welcomed three new members: Mars China, China Southern Airlines Group, and Accenture China. This brings the number of partners of the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative to 17.

It is understood that the "Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative" adopts the "1+N" model, with "1" as the principle initiative, including strengthening top-level design, providing sustainable products and services, focusing on communicating sustainability information with consumers, cultivating sustainable consumption culture, paying attention to the consumption needs of special groups, multi-party cooperation, creating a social atmosphere and promoting policy mechanisms, and "N" is the initiative and commitment of each brand for sustainable consumption and production in their respective fields.

In fact, the CICGF actively practices the concept of "green organizing" in terms of green participation, green travel, and low-carbon information management. In addition, the reporter noted that during the Hainan International Consumption Season, Hainan carried out the theme activity of trade-in and green circulation of household appliances, and organized household appliances enterprises in the province to carry out trade-in activities.

The Ministry of Commerce is also promoting sustainable consumption. According to Yang Hua, the Ministry of Commerce, together with relevant departments, has introduced a series of policies and measures to promote the high-quality development of the automobile market, promote the intelligent consumption of green household appliances and a series of other policy measures. Accelerate the development of green logistics and distribution, promote the reduction of express packaging, and continuously improve the level of resource recovery.

Combined with the current development trend of the consumer goods industry, Zheng Yan, deputy director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the current work and task is to cultivate new momentum for scientific and technological innovation in the consumer goods industry, followed by creating a new engine for the upgrading of consumer goods industry demand, and finally to create a new situation of international cooperation in the consumer goods industry.

For the next step, Zheng Yan revealed that the next step of the Consumer Goods Industry Division will continue to make efforts in scientific and technological innovation, quality standards, digital transformation and other aspects, and improve the quality of industrial development with higher standards. At the same time, we will continue to focus on the needs of consumption upgrading and weak links, promote product quality and efficiency, and accelerate product innovation in subdivided groups and subdivided fields.
