The Baoyun Tunnel of the Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway is located in Huize County, Qujing City, with a total length of 16.797 kilometers, and is a major and difficult project and a Class II risk tunnel of the Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway. The area where the tunnel is located has huge ups and downs, complex geological structure, karst development, fragile ecology, and the cave body has low gas overflow, large deformation of soft rock, collapse along the bed, landslide and other undesirable geology through multiple fault fracture zones. The builders of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway of China Railway 18th Bureau Group overcame difficulties such as complex geological structure, long material transportation distance, and unstable climate and weather, and strictly implemented the construction method of "pipe advancement, strict grouting, short footage, weak blasting, strong support, early closure, and frequent measurement", paid close attention to safe production, and strictly controlled the construction quality.
The Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway is an important measure to implement the development strategy of promoting the development of the western region in the new era, the Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle and the construction of the new western land-sea corridor, and is an important part of the "Beijing-Kunming Corridor", one of the main corridors of the mainland's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railways, with a total length of 699 kilometers, a total of 21 stations and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
