Francis Bacon (1909-1992) was born in Dublin, Ireland, and grew up in England. He left home in 1927 for Paris, where he visited art galleries and developed a keen interest in painting. Upon his return to London, he spent two or three years in his studio, trying to establish himself as a so-called "second-rate decorative painter". At the same time, he continued to experiment with watercolor painting and drawing, and his carpet designs and early paintings, watercolors, with a cubist style. In the early days, Bacon inherited Picasso's style and gradually gained popularity in the art world.

In 1933, one of Bacon's "Crucifixions" was included in "Contemporary Art", which symbolized the pointer art works of British criticism at the time, and in 1934 he held his own solo exhibition. However, all this external praise did not bring Bacon joy. On the contrary, he was frustrated by the limitations and inadequacies of his painting ability. He once claimed that he was trapped in a huge gap between the representation of the picture and the reality, and for a time gave up painting and returned to the bar. Afterwards, he personally destroyed most of his early paintings, which he considered worthless, and said nothing about them.

In the 50s of the 20th century, he created more than 50 variations of "Portrait Studies" based on the famous painting "Pope Innocent X" by the Spanish painter Velázquez. These vivid and powerful metamorphoses transform the infallible rule of the Pope into a demonic image. The works are large in size and magnificent, with colours and brushstrokes reminiscent of the works of Titian, a 16th-century Venetian school. With the originality and powerful style of his paintings, Bacon gradually rose to fame.

Francis Bacon's work has a wide influence. He has a broad cultural background and has studied the writings of Nietzsche, Mannerist and Romantic paintings, as well as the works of Nordic grotesque painters. He is accustomed to using human figures as the basis for his pictorial design, and gives emotional color to the objects and scenes in the visual world in his paintings. His work often draws on paintings by past masters, but these subjects are influenced by personal experience and inner excruciation. His paintings reflect the spiritual crisis of contemporary urban life, a disillusioned, bestial feeling of horror.

Bacon died in 1992 in his apartment in Madrid, Spain.

As for the characteristics of his paintings, Bacon not only absorbed the essence of his predecessors, but also fully demonstrated his own style and emotional expression. His work is both unique and powerful, making his name and his art always remembered.
