Writer Qu Bo's wife admits that the little white pigeon in the novel "Lin Hai Snow Plain" does have her shadow

author:Spring and autumn in the palm of the hand

The novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan", which has been published for more than 60 years, has really influenced several generations.

Not only the mysterious Northeast Linhai Snow Field, the thrilling battle against bandits, and the reconnaissance hero Yang Zirong are unforgettable, but the beautiful little white pigeon portrayed in the book has always been a topic of conversation among readers and audiences.

Qu Bo, the author of the novel and a famous writer with this book, talked about the creation process of the artistic image of "Little White Dove" (Bai Ru) before his death.

Qu Bo said: In the vast forest and sea in those days, we faced an extremely ferocious enemy, and the harsh environment did not allow the squad to lead female soldiers to fight. Why write about a hygienist? The idea at the time was that our war was for peace, and in the forest there were wild beasts and bandits except for heavy snow, and it was too cold and monotonous to simply describe this. So, I consciously created a "little white dove" that embellishes the life of the fight.

Qu Bo said: "If you want to ask who the 'little white dove' is modeled against, I can tell you that it is my lover. She participated in the Anti-Japanese War at the age of 14, and became the chief of the rear hospital of the Jiaodong Military Region and a member of the hospital's party committee at the age of 15. Based on her character traits, I created Bai Ru, a little girl in the army of ten thousand horses, to set off the atmosphere of peace. ”

Qu Bo said that the professional details of the "little white pigeon" wiping the bodies of the wounded in the book are integrated into the stories of some nurses I knew during the Anti-Japanese War. Therefore, the characters in the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan" have the reality of life and artistic creation.

Qu Bo's wife, Liu Bo, insisted that the "little white pigeon" in the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan" did have her shadow, but only 30% of it was her prototype story.

Liu Bo believes that when her husband Qu Bo created "Lin Hai Snow Plain", it was largely based on his personal experience during the war years. He made many friends in the army, including some women who worked in the field care industry. In the difficult environment of war, these female soldiers not only undertook heavy medical treatment tasks, but also actively participated in battles, showing extraordinary courage and wisdom.

Qu Bo admired these brave women in the army very much, so when creating "Lin Hai Xueyuan", the images and deeds of these female hygienists were artistically processed and refined, and finally integrated into the character "Little White Pigeon" in the book.

Qu Bo's wife, Liu Bo and Qu Bo, were villagers in Huang County, Shandong, but they did not know each other before participating in the revolution.

Liu Bo recalled in his later years: After the "July Seven" incident, the whole country set off an anti-Japanese upsurge. Influenced by the anti-Japanese ideology, we joined the Eighth Route Army in 1938. At the age of 16, Qu Bo became a cultural officer in the 13th Regiment of the Jiaodong Military Region, and an instructor at the age of 17. At the age of 15, I became the head nurse of the rear hospital of the Jiaodong Military Region, and in the same year I joined the party and served as a member of the hospital's party committee. In 1942, Qu Bo led the work inspection team to the hospital to inspect the work, and the two of us met for the first time. ”

In 1946, Qu Bo was hospitalized for intestinal disease and had the opportunity to have more contact with Liu Bo. The common combat experience and special medical environment made the two young people enter each other's hearts. This year, with the approval and arrangement of the organization, they had a modest wedding. The day after the marriage, Qu Bo rushed to the front line to suppress bandits.

The struggle against bandits was very arduous. Qu Bo led his troops to chase and search and fight in the deep mountains and dense forests for several months, and the husband and wife rarely had time to live together.

Liu Bo recalled: At that time, I was the secretary of the political department of the army, and Qu Bo lived in our office when he came back, often staying for one night and leaving. Every time I come back, I look very tired, and sometimes I can't repair my shoes and socks when they are torn, and my toes are almost exposed. When he came back in the winter of 1946, he had scabies on his body and both legs, and I got ointment from the hospital, asked him to bake the stove, and rubbed his whole body vigorously several times.

From the introduction of relevant historical materials, it is understood that after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Qu Bo's Eighth Route Army unit rushed from Shandong to the northeast and fought all the way to Wuchang County, Heilongjiang along the eastern part of Liaodong. Immediately, he was ordered by his superiors to go to the Mudanjiang area to suppress bandits.

Along the way, the army stepped up revolutionary propaganda and agitation, and many young people joined the army along the way. By the time of the Mudanjiang River, it had developed into two regiments. Qu Bo served as deputy political commissar and director of the Political Department of the Second Regiment at the age of 22.

In 1947, the battle against bandits was basically over, and Qu Bo's regiment was incorporated into the First Column of the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army (the predecessor of the 38th Army).

Qu Bo performed prominently in the war and attracted the attention of his superiors. In February 1948, when participating in the battle of Daliantun in Shenbei, he was wounded in the arm, and the shrapnel was removed from the Harbin Field Hospital. In November of the same year, he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Liaoshen, leaving his right leg disabled.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in October 1949, Qu Bo served as the political commissar of the Second Brigade of the Andong Naval Academy of the People's Liberation Army. After leaving the army, he successively served as Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Shenyang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory of the Ministry of Railways, and Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Qiqihar Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory of the Ministry of Railways. In July 1962, Qu Bo returned to the army and served as a full-time creator of the Cultural Department of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army.

In the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan", 80% of Shao Jianbo's image is taken from Qu Bo's own experience.

Qu Boai said that there is a revolutionary heroic spirit lingering in him. In the novel, we can find the noble spirit of sacrifice and dedication of their generation of soldiers and the connotation of the heroic and tenacious era.

Founding Major General Liu Juying, during the Anti-Japanese War in 1943, served as the secretary general of the Shandong Democratic Government and the director of the Shandong Provincial Public Security Bureau. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Liu Juying served as the director of the Zhongchang Railway Administration and the commander of the Transportation Command of the Northeast Military Region. Because he was familiar with Qu Bo and saw that his leg was injured and disabled, he persuaded him to transfer to the railway department to engage in industry.

In December 1950, Qu Boyi was reluctant to take off his military uniform and was appointed as Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Shenyang Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory, and later transferred to Qiqihar Rolling Stock Factory as Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director.

Qu Bo was a second-class A disabled soldier, and he insisted on running around on crutches at that time.

At the beginning of 1955, the central government decided that all machinery and vehicle factories would be managed by the First Machinery Department, and Qu Bo was transferred to Beijing to serve as the vice president of the First Design Institute of the First Machinery Department, and was assigned to live in the dormitory of the First Machinery Department in Zhuangchen District.

In 1977, after crushing the "Gang of Four", he became deputy director of the General Administration of Industry of the Ministry of Railways. In 1981, he went to Hailin County, Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province to pay homage to the tomb of his comrade-in-arms Yang Zirong.

In February 1983, Qu Bo retired. He died in Beijing in June 2002.

In September 2019, Qu Bo's novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan" was selected into the "70 Novels Collection of 70 Years of New China".

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, she served as the secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Medical College, the leader of the Maternity Hospital, and the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Medical University before her retirement.

Liu Bo recalled that in 1955, when he was still in Northeast China, his husband Qu Bo was criticized for opposing the implementation of the Soviet-style "one-long system" in factories. In the aggrieved mood, he couldn't help but think of his comrades in life and death in the rain of bullets.

One day after work, he listed the names of his comrades-in-arms on the manuscript paper on which he wrote the review: Yang Zirong, Gao Bo, etc. The idea of writing a novel was born.

After working in Beijing, Qu Bo began to write secretly, not wanting outsiders to know that he wrote novels. Every day after work, I hid in my room and buried myself in writing.

Liu Bo recalled that at that time, the drawer in the middle of the desk at home was always ajar, and as soon as he heard a colleague or neighbor from the computer department looking for him, Qu Bo immediately stuffed the draft into the drawer. He loves face, has strong self-esteem, and is afraid that he will not write well and cause trouble in the city.

Because Qu Bo personally experienced the battle of suppressing bandits in Lin Hai Snow Plain, the thrilling and fierce combat life made him accumulate a lot of materials.

When the first three chapters and 150,000 words of the first draft of the novel were written, he felt that his writing level could not fully express his inner emotions. In a fit of rage, he burned the original manuscript.

He was always inspired by the heroic deeds of his fallen comrades, so he mustered up the courage to write again, and was determined to keep writing. One night, when Qu Bo wrote about the sacrifice of his comrade-in-arms Yang Zirong, he couldn't suppress his emotions and burst into tears for a while.

He woke up his wife Liu Bo and said that he wrote about Yang Zirong's sacrifice, and he felt uncomfortable and couldn't write anymore······

Therefore, there is also a later opening chapter of the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan": "With the deepest respect, I dedicate it to my heroic comrades-in-arms Yang Zirong, Gao Bo and other comrades, to express my deep nostalgia for my comrades-in-arms!"

His wife, Liu Bo, supports her husband's writing and is also the first reader and copyist of his works.

Liu Bo said that before joining the army, I was in the fourth grade of primary school, and he was in the fifth and a half grades of primary school. When he was a child, he read famous works such as "Three Kingdoms", "Water Margin", and "Saying Yue", which had a great impact. After participating in the revolution, he read "How Steel is Made", and the experience of the Soviet writer Ostrovsky greatly educated and inspired him.

At that time, Qu Bo sometimes wrote 10,000 words a day, and Liu Bo copied it out in two or three days. If you encounter empty words and typos in the manuscript, Liu Bo will check the dictionary and fill them up.

There are few rooms at home, and there are no two tables, so Liu Bo copies the manuscript on the sewing machine. After each chapter, it is bound with wool and strips of cloth.

In order to support Qu Bo's creation, Liu Bo took care of all the housework. Sometimes on Sundays, she deliberately takes her four children to the park to play, so that Qu Bo can write at home with peace of mind.

Liu Bo recalled that once, the General Office of the First Machinery Department held a meeting to convey the documents of the superiors, and Qu Bo sat in the venue and wrote the chapter "The Squad Arrived at the Hundred Chickens Banquet" because he had read the documents in advance.

After a year and a half of hard work in his spare time, the first draft of the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan" of about 400,000 words was finally completed.

Liu Bo bought cloth and cut two furoshiki skins, packed the manuscript into two large bags, and the couple carried one bag to the editorial office of "Chinese Literature" in the building of the Foreign Languages Bureau diagonally opposite his residence. It turned out that most of them were foreign experts, and the staff suggested that they go to the "Writers Publishing House" in Dongzongbu Hutong to submit their articles.

The couple took a bus to the "Writers Publishing House". Qu Bo said to the comrades who received me: "I'm not a writer, can you see if what you write? If not, I'll pick it up by making a phone call." ”

Qu Bo also repeatedly told the other party that the call must be made to the home, for fear that the unit would know that the news had leaked.

Soon, Long Shihui and other editors of "Writers Publishing House" read the manuscript and called their home to inform: "Come on." ”

Qu Bo didn't have hope in his heart, so he went and said, "I'm here to pick up the manuscript." ”

Unexpectedly, Long Shihui's editor told him: "We are sure to publish your manuscript, but we need to make some revisions..." Subsequently, he had a specific communication with Qu Bo.

During this period, Qin Zhaoyang, deputy editor-in-chief of "People's Literature", learned about Qu Bo's manuscript and proposed that he could first select and distribute the chapter "Surprise Attack on the Tiger's Wolf's Den" in "People's Literature", and made it clear in the "Editor's Note": "The author is an officer of the People's Liberation Army and is now working in the industrial sector... This book will be a gratifying harvest in mainland literary creation. ”

Sure enough, after "Lin Hai Xueyuan" was published by "Writers Publishing House" and "People's Literature Publishing House" in 1957, it immediately caused quite a stir.

In the years since, the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan" has been adapted into movies, TV series, and dramas, including the movie "Lin Hai Xueyuan" and the modern Peking Opera "Outwitting Tiger Mountain" adapted from the novel, as well as the film and television drama of the same name produced in recent years. have had a very wide and far-reaching impact.

After the publication of the novel "Lin Hai Xueyuan", countless readers speculated that the little white pigeon in the book should be Liu Bo, the wife of writer Qu Bo, and even Marshal He Long.

It is said that once Marshal He Long met Qu Bo in the hospital, and when he had a relationship with him, he praised him for his good writing, which was very legendary and infectious. Mr. He asked humorously and seriously: "What about Bai Ru, why didn't Bai Ru accompany you?"

Qu Bo hurriedly explained: "Mr. He, my lover's name is Liu Bo, not Bai Ru. ”

Marshal He Long smiled: "It doesn't matter what your name is, anyway, you are Shao Jianbo, and Bai Ru is your lover." ”

Qu Bo replied honestly: "Mr. He, I do have some references, but there are also a lot of fictional things. ”

Marshal He Long laughed heartily and said, "That's not important, Shao Jianbo and Xiao Bairu are good soldiers, I like it!"

How many years later, Qu Bo still remembers Mr. He's smiling face at that time...
