"Lin Hai Xueyuan" is a novel created by the modern writer Qu Bo, published by the Writers Publishing House in 1957, the response is strong, become one of the most popular novels, and reprinted many times, this novel vividly shows the hardships of the Northeast bandit battle in the early days of the Liberation War, the bravery and wisdom of the commanders and fighters, influenced generation after generation, is one of the classics in the history of Chinese literature.

In the winter of 1946, a small detachment of the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army, under the leadership of Shao Jianbo, chief of staff of the regiment, went deep into the Linhai Snow Field to carry out the task of suppressing bandits. The prototype of Shao Jianbo, the chief of staff of the regiment in "Lin Hai Xueyuan", is the author Qu Bo, and the prototype of Bai Ru is Qu Bo's wife Liu Bo. Liu Bo was a medical worker, a comrade-in-arms of Qu Bo who lived and died together in his youth, and shared weal and woe in his youth, Liu Bo passed away in Beijing on April 14, 2024, at the age of 100.

Regarding the artistic image of "Little White Dove", Qu Bo once said, "We are facing an extremely ferocious enemy, and the harsh environment does not allow the team to lead female soldiers to fight. Why do you want to write about a hygienist? He thought that our war is for peace, and in the forest there are wild beasts and bandits except for heavy snow, and it is too cold and monotonous to simply describe this, so he consciously created a "little white dove." After the publication of "Lin Hai Xueyuan", the characters such as Yang Zirong and Shao Jianbo in the novel were deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, and this work was also adapted into a comic book by many publishing houses across the country, the most outstanding of which was the six-volume edition published by the Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House in 1959, drawn by Luo Xing and Wang Yiqiu.
Luo Xing (1922-1994) was good at comic strips and taught at the Shanghai Arts and Crafts School. The main works of the comic strip include "The Dangerous Road", "The Bloody Case in the Mountains", "Robinson Crusoe", "Dedication to the Motherland", "Snow Tracking", "Ke Chubei", "The Man Riding the White Horse", "Fighting Youth" and so on. Wang Yiqiu (1925-2019), who is good at comic books, was a creator of the comic book creation studio of Shanghai Renmei Society. The main works include "Yang Gate Female General", "Little Knife Club", "Ma Yue Tanxi", "Li Kui in Tokyo", "Qing Soldiers Entering the Fortress", "Son of the Prairie", "Chen Yucheng", "Tang Bohu", etc., and the work "The Legend of Lanting" won the second prize of painting creation at the 3rd National Comic Book Awards.
In order to create "Lin Hai Snow Plain", the two painters experienced life in Northeast China for more than three months and collected a large number of painting materials. They creatively applied the techniques of Chinese painting such as "blank space" and "accentuation" to the creation of comic strips, with strong contrast in the picture, strong impact of perspective, changeable composition, and unique aesthetic characteristics in the natural environment, character image, customs, etc.
I remember when I was a child, I particularly liked this set of comic books, which I saw at a neighbor's house, a set of six copies, but unfortunately not all of them, as if one or two volumes were missing. The comic strip brought me into a strange, mysterious, and dangerous world, with the reckless snowfield, the inaccessible forest sea, the ice and snow, the strange and different natural environment, the gripping storyline, and the characters in the stories such as Shao Jianbo, Yang Zirong, "Little White Pigeon", Little Furnace Maker, "Butterfly Fan" and "Mountain Carving" left a deep impression on me.
The painting technique of this comic book is also relatively special, not the traditional common line drawing technique, the black and white contrast is particularly strong, rich in layers, with the effect of ink rendering, for the expression of the unique natural environment of the Northeast Forest, Sea and Snow Fields and the shaping of characters, creating scenes, and setting off the atmosphere has a special effect.
