Today I would like to introduce to you a French artist Richard Plaud, who has only one hobby on weekdays - matchmaking. And his dream is to break the Guinness World Record by building the Eiffel Tower with a matchstick.
In December 2015, he began to build his match tower from that day in 2015. However, it is not easy to build with matches, because each match needs to be glued end-to-end, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive. One of the most troublesome is to remove the sulfur from the top of the matchstick to avoid a fire in the subsequent process.
In order to make it easier, he contacted Le Roi des Allumettes, a major French match manufacturer, and asked if they could sell sulphur-free matches, which made it much easier for Richard to build.
In order to perfectly replicate every detail of the Eiffel Tower, Paul first depicted a three-dimensional version of the Eiffel Tower with pixels, and also designed the structural scheme himself, accurate to the slope, weight, and size of the parts.
Since there was not enough space in the house to fit the tower, which was more than 6.35 meters high, Richard's tower was divided into several parts and never assembled.
Finally, the match tower, which took 8 years to complete, used a total of 706,900 matches and 23 kilograms of glue, but weighed less than 60 kilograms, but reached a height of 7.19 meters. However, it was officially told by Guinness that the record could not be passed because the matchstick did not meet the regulations!
This is 8 years of hard work! After the media reported on the media, it also caused a lot of controversy, and finally the Guinness official after some discussion decided that the rules were indeed too strict and re-passed his world record certification!
I have to say that this process is really twists and turns, and it is more exciting than the movie!
