Cyberpunk 2077 developers clarify: The single-player game will never add microtransactions

Recently, Piotr Nielubowicz, CFO of CD Projekt Red, said in an interview that the company will not introduce microtransactions in the near-term single-player titles. In other words, microtransactions won't be added to single-player games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. This clarification comes in response to the recent controversy surrounding the list of items for the Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC.

While most of the items in Dragon Dogma 2 are obtainable through the game, Capcom's efforts to sell additional items to players at the game's initial launch sparked outrage. In this context, CD Projekt Red makes it clear that there are no microtransactions in single-player games.

While CD Projekt Red doesn't rule out the possibility of using microtransactions for future multiplayer projects, Nielubowicz added that their current focus is on single-player games. CD Projekt Red, meanwhile, is working on a multiplayer wizard game called Project Sirius, and says the project is considered AAA-level. According to Karolina Gnas, vice president of investor relations, about 40 people are currently involved in the development of the game.

In addition to the microtransaction issue, CD Projekt Red has recently touched on other hot topics. Mission designer Pawel Sasko said there's still a long way to go in generating AI-powered characters before handwriting character quality is reached. In addition, the company revealed that The Witcher 4 is in development, emphasizing that it will be a brand new sequel with 400 employees participating.
