On January 30, local time, the Canadian Immigration and Immigration Department officially announced that the Pearson Test of English (PTE) has officially become one of the language tests in Canadian immigration applications.
The test results apply to all immigration programs except Student Direct Stream.
With the addition of the French language test, USCIS accepts a total of five language tests for immigration applications:
- 1. PTE Core (Pearson) – English
- 2. CELPIP – English
- 3. IELTS-G (IELTS) – English
- 4.TEF Canada – 法语
- 5.TCF Canada – 法语

Whether you are applying for the Provincial Nominee Program, the Express Entry Program, the Atlantic Program, the Quebec Skilled Worker Program, or even some federal immigration pilot programs, you must pass a language test specified by the USCIS.
In addition, candidates are required to achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score for each program, which is generally CLB4.

01 About PTE Core Pearson English
In order to meet the language proficiency test requirements of the Immigration Department for Canadian immigration applicants, Pearson has set up a new English language test, PTE Core, specifically for immigration applications.
There are two main types of PTE exams:
- PTE Core: Applicable to Canadian immigration and citizenship applications, the fee: $340 CAD, if the domestic test fee is $317, and immigration candidates need to choose the regular category test.
- PTE Academic: Candidates applying for the Direct Study Scheme (SDS) will be required to select the Academic Examination, which is generally suitable for university or Australia and New Zealand visas, and the fee varies depending on the program and country of application.
